Black Women in Rock

This amazing project exposes the unknown history of black women in rock and celebrates their contribution to rock music in the only way they know, Nice & Rough.

This honest, provocative dialogue honors the true spirit of the American dream, which is freedom to pursue our goals and not be limited by race or gender.

Nice & Rough appeals to an international audience, and will include artists from the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Featured artists and include Betty Davis, Joyce Kennedy of Mother’s Finest, Cindy Blackman, Kudisan Kai, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Siedah Garrett, Nona Hendryx, Lisa Kekaula-Vennum of the Bellrays, Meshell Ndegeocello, Skin, formerly of Skunk Anansie, and more.

Nice & Rough continues production this summer, and is slated for completion Spring 2011.

These funds will be used for 1) a new computer. I have to hit my old one to get it going every morning. This is not a good sign. 2) Camera and lighting equipment. This will substantially save on ongoing rental fees. And 3) Production costs. Worldwide travel and hanging out with rock stars ain't free. Future campaigns and adventures are slated to cover costs of the European shoot this winter. So check back.

The sistahs are doin it for themselves! Prepare your mind to be blown to smithereens. These sistahs hit and I mean hard. Now how do I get Betty Davis’ sweet, funky voice for my phone ring-tone?

This is music that I wasn’t exposed to back in the day, but I’m diggin’ it now, ya hear? And I’m not alone.

I can’t wait to see this on the big screen and watch everybody’s heads bobbin’ to the funky beats from the soundtrack. Rock on, ladies, ROCK-ON!
