Nevada & Pine

The true story of a mother who infiltrated gang territory to find her son’s killer.

In the mid 90’s, the city of San Antonio, Texas witnessed a sharp rise in gang activity and crime. 1993 was the bloodiest year in the city’s history…

.
Nevada & Pine is the amazing true story of Rachel Valadez, a mother of 6 boys. Her life is spent juggling the many parts she plays, which include being mom, working full-time for one of San Antonio’s School Districts and selling cosmetics.

.
Mikey, one of Rachel’s sons, is the clown of the family. He has dreams of being a professional basketball player and drives his mom crazy by bringing every stray animal he finds.

.
Rachel’s world is shaken when one day Mikey is murdered after boarding a public bus with a friend. She’s devastated when she’s told that the gunman was going after Mikey’s friend. No murder weapon is found and all the witnesses went into hiding after a key witness is murdered the same night.

.
Rachel is told by the DA that without the murder weapon and without witnesses, the gunman will get away with Mikey’s murder. Armed with a list of witnesses, Rachel takes matter into her own hands. She creates a double life. In one life is a mother and a wife. In the other, she goes undercover as a gang banger, gathering information in some of San Antonio’s most dangerous neighborhoods.

.
We produced the “Nevada & Pine Documentary Short” in February of 2009 in order to help raise funding for the film of the same name, based on Rachel’s story. You can assist us reach our goal of telling Rachel’s story, through a high-quality feature film. Two of Bar Films’ producers, Noel & Albert, personally know Rachel and knew Mikey when he was alive. They have been wanting to tell her story for many years and are excited to have this opportunity to raise funding to make our dream a reality.
