Our Story
In the Summer of 2009 Lisa Beth Dery and Lori Watt founded Frolicking Divas, an independent theatre company by women for women. Their first production was Criminal Hearts by Jane Martin which had a successful run at the Havana Theatre in Vancouver. In the Spring of 2010 they partnered with Penny-A-Line Productions and the Art Matters Society to bring Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues to Spectral Theatre and the WISE Hall in Vancouver and the Massey Theatre in New Westminster. Now, we are very excited to be mounting our third production, Neil Simon's The Odd Couple (female version) at the Jericho Arts Centre in Vancouver. Show opens March 7, 2012.
The Impact
Artists do it for love, right? However the cost of mounting a play is daunting. From renting rehearsal space and the venue, to buying wood to build the set to even securing the rights to produce the play - it all costs money.
Along with the actual play costs there is also the expense of promoting the play. Posters, newspaper ads, programs and radio spots let people know where and when the show is also cost a lot of money. This show is a co-op venture so all the actors are working without guarantee of pay, they are doing this because they love the project and this will help gain them experience and recognition.Artists do it for love - but with your help - they won't have to go into debt as well. Please help - even ten dollars will make a big difference.
