About NG83
Your support is needed to help document
a cultural phenomenon in a film that has the potential to reach a global audience...
Donkey
Stone Films, in partnership with Futurist Films and in association with Fourmost Films, is working on
a feature length documentary about the Hip Hop/Breakdancing
explosion in the
UK in the early 1980s and the profound effect it had on
a generation of British youth.
NG83
focuses on the vibrant scene that emerged in Nottingham - a city that played host
to the infamous Rock City Saturday afternoon jams, which were an institution
for breakdancers from all over the UK (including a young Goldie with "Wolverhampton B-Boys" and Jason
Orange with his Manchester crew "Street Machine"). The documentary combines present-day interviews with the original B-Boys
and B-Girls, alongside archive photos, flyers and previously unseen video footage,
to shine a light on a movement that shaped the lives of many. Through the
recollections of the larger-than-life characters that made up the scene, the
film tells the dynamic story of the rise and fall of breakdancing, and the
crews that battled one another to be the best.
NG83
will be the first attempt to document this important era of British youth culture
on film.
Hundreds
of hours of interviews have been shot, and extensive archive footage has been
rescued and restored from decaying VHS tapes (and will be donated to the Media
Archive for Central England for preservation purposes). The project is
currently at the editing stage, and is due to be completed by Spring 2011 but
to get there we need YOU to help us!
What We Need & What You Get
The film has been part-financed through EM Media, regional screen agency for the East Midlands and
investors in award-winning films like Shane Meadow's This Is England and Anton Corbijns Control.
EM Media's investment has enabled us to clear the rights to use archive footage
originally broadcast in 80's Britain. However we now need additional funds to clear music for inclusion in the film this is a vital
element and we are keen to secure the authentic B-Boy anthems of the time.
The money you donate will be used
to clear the rights for our music wish list, including the following Hip Hop and Electro
tracks:
Aleem - 'Release Yourself'
DJ Mink Feat. Twice the Trouble -
'Hey! Hey! Can U Relate?'
DJ Divine - 'Get Into The Mix'
B+ - 'Beat Classic'
Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic
Force - 'Planet Rock'
Arthur Baker - 'Breaker's Revenge'
Jonzun Crew - 'Space Is The Place'
Paul Hardcastle - 'Rain Forest'
Art of Noise - 'Beat Box'
Newcleus - 'Computer Age'
We also require some tracks to use
when setting the scene of the time and showing what other subcultures were
around before Breaking emerged. These include:
Aswad - 'African Children'
The Specials - 'Nite Club'
Norman Connors - 'Mother of the
Future'
If we fail to reach our entire
goal, this list will be adjusted according to what we can afford.
In return for your kind investment
we can offer a range of unique perks such as; limited edition NG83 merchandise,
original and rare clothing from 80's hip-hop design label Mammamudd, signed
film posters, poster prints of film stills, and accreditation on the final film
due for release in Spring 2011.
