Our Story

My name is Rachel Owens. I am an avid runner and I constantly run alone in parks and sometimes in the dark. I wanted to have a way to let my family and friends know if I was hurt or be able to call for help in case I was attacked. I thought that the best way to do this would be in the form of a ring because regardless of the injury, or god forbid an attack, nothing or no one could stop me from touching my thumb to my index finger. With the help and support of my father, who spent years in the technology space, I was able to understand that this was actually doable by having the ring connect to a smart phone application through blue tooth and have the phone send a text message with a GPS location to pre-set contacts. And, with that - plus a lot of blood, sweat, and tears - MyRingGuard was born!

The Impact

MyRingGuard is no longer about me. We have spent two years developing a working ring prototype and the application requirements (now in alpha version for Android). With the help of backers we can bring our ring past prototype stage and have the hard tooling built, the Android application programming refined to make it user friendly, and then we will have a usable product available for all.

This product will allow for anyone, anywhere in the world with an Android phone: a lone walker, your daughter in college, night shift workers (hospital employees, restaurant employees) that have to walk through dark parking lots on their way home, public transit commuters, etc. to turn on an app and put on a ring before heading out and at the press of a button send a text to pre-set emergency contacts with a Google link to your exact location.
