THE STORY

My Donor's Name Is... is a short, family-friendly documentary that dispels mysteries about donor-conception with frank talk by the people involved donor-conceived individuals, parents and donors.

Through candid, personal stories, My Donor's Name Is... explores how people talk about their families, their relationships and "the donor." Children talk about their duncles (donor + uncle) and dosies (donor-related siblings). Parents explain why a donor is different from a father or dad. Young and old alike talk openly about the words they embrace or avoid, and how these words shape and are shaped by their day-to-day relationships.

My Donor's Name Is... is a vivid snapshot of social-change in the making. More than ever before people involved with donor-conception are breaking free of linguistic tradition and social norms to expand universal ideas about family, love and belonging.

THE URGENCY

There are more than one million people in the U.S. today conceived through donor conception. As many as 50,000 such babies were born last year and this number is on the rise. Still, simple questions like "Who's your daddy?" create confusion on the playground and elsewhere. A film like The Kids Are Alright tapped America's curiosity about donor-conception. Now it's time for My Donor's Name Is... a film for people of all ages and on all sides of the issue. Our goal is to create an artful film that shows there are no "right" ways to create or name a family, and to make it accessible to everyone as a useful navigational tool.
