Mrs.Todd's Shortcut

A Castle Rock tall tale ...from master storyteller, Stephen King

A Short Story

My brother handed me a beat-up copy of Stephen King's Skeleton Crew a few years back.
He said "Read 'Mrs.Todd's Shortcut' ...trust me."

I'm glad I did.

He's my co-producer now on what is shaping up to be an amazing experience.
We're turning my favorite short story into a short film.

The story and the right to do so come from Mr. Stephen King - amazing author and cool person.
Not a horror story - it is a simple but most definitely spooky tale of an obsessed woman who absolutely must find the shortest route possible between Castle Rock and Bangor, Maine or perhaps the shortest route impossible.
It speaks directly to our sense of belief in things unseen and the pure beauty of the female spirit at it's best.

I suggest you go get a copy and read the original story ..you'll like it too...
It has a different "feel" for an SK story ...it's worth reading for the prose alone.
Then you can contact us and read the script ...& you can tell us what we're doing wrong - perfecto, I says.

I fell instantly and completely in love with the story ...the language ...with Ophelia Todd.
I love it.

cheers,
Arthur (I'm directing)

The Film

We will be shooting in beautiful Nova Scotia ...a spot that's currently doubling for Stephen King's "Maine" in HAVEN, and damn if we don't make a classic "Maine" in DELORES CLAIBORNE too.

The small towns of Bridgewater and Caledonia will double for Castle Rock and Bangor, with a few interesting inserts from around our lovely and often fog-shrouded province.

Once completed, we'll bundle it up with a small number of our best "genre" work then get out there and make some good impressions. We'll tour the festival circuit and show that we can adapt a story for film from existing material ... & we can do it well(we have more genre work ...we're waiting).
Those who contribute can stay connected forever and we hope you do ...we're still working on assembling our team - passion is the key.

This story is alllll about it...

The basics are in place but anyone with skill or desire can join us, and you are welcome...

We just want to do right by the story and it's author while creating something special in the process.

Where will your money go?

As an absolutely non-profit venture we naively thought we could do this with favors and passion - Making a movie costs money, it's just a fact. Funds will go to...

Insurance for the Antique Mercedes we're using. Everything around the car is expensive.

Transport and all related items//Locations//Permits etc.

Actors(bloody troublemakers that they are)- Per diems for our Union Players. We have a wonderful Ophelia ...so talented.

Food. We have to feed everyone well. The rest is for post/sound/color correct. We have two editors champing at the bit but the free time they're offering doesn't cover Studio time.

In fact we have an extraordinary group as our core team now.

We have a DETAILED budget available for anyone who wants to investigate this project. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

We will gladly offer "TRADE" work ...you help us ...we help you - it's a big world, film - we all need help...

..& if you're a big Stephen King fan or more specifically a fan of the original story, well ..we'd like your opinion too...

Find us on facebook and ask some questions...

Sounds good?

We have some great minds involved & I'm betting you, dear funder, have a great mind too...

So my suggestion is this - FUND US... JOIN US ...or BOTH.

What a great conversation for the water-cooler... "I just funded a shortfilm - I'm a Producer now."

You should try saying that - it feels nice.
