Mrs. Foster
Movie making is a business. Investors invest money for a reason. One piece of pop culture that we find very encouraging is that this year, the most profitable film in Hollywood is a horror suspence story about a possessed child, made for under a million dollars, that so far has grossed over a 100 million dollars worldwide. And that's with many international territories still to come. Mrs. Foster is in that same genre.
Michael V. Doane, Writer/Director
I've always been a do-it-yourself type of dreamer. When I was a kid, instead of spending money I didn't have to follow the charts in Billboard Magazine, I listened to American Top 40 on radio and wrote them all down for free. When I was in high school running for student body president and knew I couldn't defeat a popular cheerleader unless I did something crazy, I sang my speech. And won. When I came to New York and couldn't get cast in anything, I opened my own theatre company and stayed in business for 6 years. And when I couldn't get any record company to give me or my music a home, I started a record label and ran it out of my home. So after joining BAHMM (an amazing group of aspiring filmmakers) and further developing my script for Mrs. Foster, I knew it would only be a matter of time before Ryan William White (BAHMM founder) and I would join forces and make it happen. What We Need
We are approaching this with two different mind sets but both have the same time line - a November start date. Not only do we need the weather and conditions that come with that date, but it also gives us one year to complete production and post in time for the 2012 festivals. In one scenerio, if we raise $50,000, we can get the movie in the can with a talented unknown lead actress working for mostly a deferred salary, film locally (90 minutes from Manhattan), and pay our crew. In the second scenerio, if we raise $100,000, we still film locally and pay our crew, but the additional funding would afford us the opportunity to approach a recognizable star to play the title role. Mary Eve Foster is a very complex character who is almost never off screen - the role is a feast for any number of 40-50 something actresses. The power of a name attached to the project would be enormous when selling DVD, TV and international rights. Either way, we are determined to have every dollar from this campaign, and from all other funding sources, get us to that November start date. Here are some examples of where your money would go:
-
$25 will pay for an actor's travel reimbursement for one day
-
$175 will pay for lunch for cast and crew for one day
-
$500 will cover the cost of camera lenses rental for a week
-
$1,500 will hire a production designer/art director
-
$3,000 will hire a sound mixer/boom operator
Other Ways You Can Help
Ryan and I have had so much support already and we are forever grateful to those who helped us shoot the trailer. We hope it intrigued you to see the whole film and spooked you, just a little. Of course we need money to shoot the whole film and here's where you come in. Make some noise about our campaign! Help us get the word out. Share our link with your friends and family. Follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook and pimp us out to all the film fanatics in your life who believe in those who dare to dream. Be part of making Mrs. Foster!
