I’m not what you would consider a typical director. I work full-time as a Lead Programmer at a software company. Growing up I always loved going to see movies with my Dad, and they affected me at an early age. When I was just 5 years old my parents took me to see Jaws 2, and I literally did not go swimming in the ocean until I was 18. Within the last 10 years my interest in making my own movies grew with the help of my sister-in-law, who was a TV/Film major in college. She lent me her copy of “The Filmmakers Handbook”, which I quickly read cover-to-cover.
In 2004 I picked up a copy of Pinnacle Studio 8, and made a proof-of-concept short called “Hellmo”. Soon after that I proceeded to create a 22 minute mockumentary for my day job, which was shown at one of our company meetings. Around that time I started drafting a script about an inept seminar speaker. It initially ballooned to 30+ pages including a love story sub-plot, which I then pared down to 21 pages focusing on the seminar speaker himself. Finally in 2007 I finished the script and started assembling my cast and crew. With only three days of shooting and countless nights of pre-production and post-production work, One-Day Seminar is finally complete. This short represents my first serious foray into the film festival circuit. I always said if I were to ever do it all again, I would go to film school. For me, this is my next best thing…
