Then imagine an even more enhanced "sun time" clock which also may have all sorts of circadian rhythm benefits for people who work in windowless cubicles, for nurses and patients in Intensive Care Units, and others in need as described below.
And finally imagine a "sun time" clock that adds not one, but TWO complementary "moon time" modes, -- the second of which offers special benefits for women, per http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17383933 and http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7246643.
You don't have to imagine such a "sun time" and "moon time" (as well as "corporate standard time") bio-logical clock system with "curiously comforting" mind-body possibilities. Just visit HourTyme.org to see what we ALMOST have running on Android smart phones and iPhones. And see what we are also now are beginning to have running on our new 8 inch Chumby C8 replacement for the standalone platform, which for three years we have been donating to Alzheimer's/Dementia Units -- and other health care institutions. And that we are now also beginning to donate to individual families in need.
All of which now leads to why we are turning to you, the members of the IndieGoGo community.To:
1) provide incentive bonuses for our programmers, so that we can much more quickly move our new HourTyme clock onto iPhones and Android 2.2+ smart phones (see our Android CMO Beta prototype on http://GetJar.com); as well as,
2) more quickly raise the minimum funds required for volume purchase discounts from http://Chumby.com, so that we can have many more of our HourTyme4Chumbies standalone version available for donations to health care facilities and families,
we need an estimated $7,500. And, in return, we are offering various HourTyme premiums, such as discounted screen savers, discounted HourTyme4iPhones and HourTyme4Androids, and discounted HourTyme4Chumbies, and five discounted, limited edition museum quality custom HourTyme clocks.
And the best part of whatever premium you choose, you will be getting a version of a patented clock that is so uniquely rich with exciting possibilities that Dr. Wilford Spradlin, M.D., former Chair of the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry of the University of Virginia Medical School, recently said of it...
I consider it to have profound implications."
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE CANNOT GET THE WHOLE $7,500 IN DONATIONS?
If we cannot get that entire amount from donors, we will use whatever money we do raise for incentives that more quickly move things along, and also to build up our Chumby 8 inch inventory.
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE GET MORE THAN $7,500 IN DONATIONS?
If we get more than $7,500 in donations, we will be able to much more quickly donate many more of HourTyme standalone clocks to institutions and to individual family care-givers serving the needs of those suffering diseases now known to be associated with disrupted circadian rhythms: Alzheimer's Disease & Sundown Syndrome, Autism, Parkinson's Disease as well as Parkinson's Disease Dementia (half of all PD sufferers get PDD!) And all of the other modern life-style major and minor ills, for which chronically under-informed biological clocks improperly regulating our organs, cells and many of our genes may well be at least a contributing factor.
BTW, OUR GREENTYME PROJECT NON-PROFIT ALSO SEEKS TO ACTIVELY HELP OTHER NON-PROFITS, AND NOT ONLY THOSE SERVING THE NEEDS OF PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM CIRCADIAN RHYTHM-RELATED ILLNESSES.
Our above donation process is on-going, and broad. Thus, from time to time we also get sponsors who buy our standalone clocks so that they can contribute them to other worthy causes, and not just circadian-related ones. E.g., our latest sponsor contributed one of our standalone clocks to a silent auction fund-raising project of her daughter's school. And we greatly encourage you to also make our HourTyme4Chumbies clocks available for multiple purposes (as they can also be run in native Chumby.com mode) to one or more charities close to your own heart.
Much thanks for your time. And please send me any questions you may have about our GreenTyme project, our various HourTyme clocks, and this fund-raising page on Indiegogo.com.
AS WE HAVE GOTTEN VERY FEW DONATIONS SO FAR,
DOES THIS HELP? IF NOT, WHAT ELSE SHOULD WE DO?
Much thanks!!! Yale@GreenTyme.org
$2 instead of $5 for an HourTyme screen-saver that is branded with your name on it as a founding sponsor;
$5 instead of $10 for Androids and iPhones that have a special MoodTyme journaling feature;
$150 instead of $250 for two hundred standalone HourTyme4Chumbies, for use by children and adults suffering from circadian rhythm-related illnesses such as autism, depression, ADD/ADHD, insomnia and obesity, as well as those of you working in all sorts of windowless environments;
$2000 instead of $2500 for five museum-quality special edition HourTyme clocks in John Lynch Collection customized clock cases.
All of our premiums are directly related to our mission of helping more and more youngsters through oldsters living urban life-styles feel better, one biological clock at a time. And now, with our two new moon time modes, helping women and the men who live with them and love them, feel better one monthly cycle at a time too. But our premiums only have value if our clock does. So what makes us and some others think our HourTyme clock may be so special that a neuroscientist and medical school educator like Dr. Wilford Spradlin, not only calls our clock profound, but also keeps telling us to get more scientific research from sufferers, care-givers and those at risk to circadian rhythm-related ills small and large?
For our first five years,
due to limited funds, we more informally then
scientifically explored what happens to our minds and bodies when they
are better informed about where they are in the natural day and
night! And the promising anecdotal results so far of our
chrono-cognitive "therapy" are not surprising once you too know a little about the new science
of chronobiology. Because in the
same way that we need to take vitamins to protect ourselves from or recover from illnesses due to vitamin deficiencies, the same logic holds true for filling those information gaps in those circadian biological clocks of ours which are often very chronically under-informed.
And thus the chrono-cognitive therapy that our GreenTyme Project seeks to explore and apply is much like a more focused version of mindfulness and cognitive therapy, which is where people seek to improve their mental and physical health by knowing more and by being more aware. In our case, we enable our HourTyme users to be more knowledgeable about the passage of their natural days and nights. And it very often turns out something as simple as knowing one's local natural time throughout the day and night quickly produces positive psychological effects. Will seeing your "GreenTyme" with your own localized HourTyme clock help you physically? There is no way to know until we and medical researchers have lots of data over a long period of time. But that seems possible because we all have bio-clocks that regulate our organs, cells and many of our genes. And as those biological clocks of ours are rarely these days resync-ed every sunrise and sunset the way that all of Life requires that, by definition, millions of our circadian rhythms are now known to be badly disrupted. Jet Lag and Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.) are just tips of that disrupted circadian rhythm iceberg. And even something as "normal" as the disorientation most people get due to moving to and from Daylight Saving Time can be very dangerous to our health. E.g., the number of heart attacks jumps in the week after DST goes into effect. Without question, for millions of us, and especially as we get older, Mother Nature VERY MUCH does not like us messing around with Father Time!
But even when we are young, Mother Nature does not like our bio-clocks being in the dark about where we and they are per daily and nightly sun time. E.g., just do some Google searches of diseases that you are curious about -- adding in the word "circadian" in your searches, and you will soon build a list that includes AIDS/HIV, Alzheimer's (and Sundown Syndrome), Arthritis, Asthma and Autism. And that's just the A's. And on that list will also be Breast & Prostate Cancer, Parkinson's and Huntington's, Tourette's, Obesity. Plus, of course, Insomnia. Furthermore, to the extent that you work in-doors in the day, or work second or third shift, you are at even greater risk. And if you are just concerned about yourself or your mom and/or your dad starting to be more and more forgetful, Google "senior moments" circadian hamsters. Yes, hamsters!
Ok. The hamster part can sound funny. But there is nothing funny about this. If and when you are recovering from any kind of operation in a windowless Intensive Care Unit: BEWARE of some of that intensive care, per www.experienceproject.com/stories/Survived-Icu-.... And this is ALSO VERY IMPORTANT from a circadian bio-clock perspective: If you or a loved one ever get cancer, you are strongly advised to ask the oncologist about a variation of chemotherapy called "chronotherapy". Because that well-proven, though not often way of administering chemotherapy might be a life saver, per http://dspace.mit.edu/handle/1721.1/39436. And, if there is nothing else you do as a result of visiting this page, please tell everyone you know about CHRONOTHERAPY!!!
We are human beings, not machines. And modern urban life-styles very much prevent our bio-clocks from being resync-ed every sunrise and sunset the way those of our hunter-gatherer and farmer ancestors' were. The good news is that more and more of the medical profession is waking up to the consequences of ignoring the needs of our biological clocks. But the bad news is don't expect your Swatch or even Rolex to help out. Conventional clocks and watches do not show the kind of LOCAL NATURAL TIME that your internal clock vitally needs to know.
As, for now, we seem to be the only ones seeking to research chrono-cognitive therapy by making available local natural time on clocks for use at a person's deepest physiological & physical levels, and as we are also SO CLOSE to making our HourTyme clocks more widely available on both mobile phones and as standalone devices, now is the time when we need your help most. Even $1 or just telling someone about us is greatly appreciated.
Other Ways You Can Help
We need doors to be opened for us at more places where we can make our standalone HourTyme clocks freely available. And we need sponsors for those clocks. And, as we think it best to not have our donations of standalone clocks limited by the number of donors and sponsors we now or in the future get, we also need you to spread the word about our screen saver and Google Android & iPhone mobile phone fund-raising in support of GreenTyme's own standalone clock donations.
