Thanks to our generous donors and supporters! First mission accomplished! The "Mountain Muir" sculpture is now at The University of the Pacific -- Holt Atherton Library (home of the John Muir papers.)
However, we are on a continuing mission to keep the legacy of America's most influential conservationist alive through sculpture.
Please join us on our Mission for Muir!
Our Story
Do you have an appreciation for nature and the wilderness? Do you love to visit the National Parks like Yosemite, Sequoia, and The Grand Canyon? Well, if you answered "YES", you can thank John Muir! Without him, many of the breathtaking canyons, trees, rivers, mountains and meadows would not have been preserved for all to enjoy today.
Hello, my name is Will Pettee. I'm a sculptor who is just as passionate about sculpting as John Muir was about nature and the environment. My wife, Karen, loves to photograph nature's beauty. Last year, inspired by John Muir's pursuit of his life's passion, my wife and I decided to take a leap of faith and start our own business called WJP Studios. We want to bring joy and inspire others to pursue their dreams.
We're here today to honor and give thanks, through our art, to one man who made a difference to our world with his words and deeds -- John Muir.
He is one of America's most important historical figures and was a regional naturalist with global impact. His writings influenced presidents and congressmen to preserve nature. One of the most traditional ways to keeping the legacy of important people alive throughout the ages has been through sculpture. However, John Muir has been underrepresented in this all-important art form.
Therefore, I felt compelled to create a bronze sculpture of him that I thought would best represent this man of action and help preserve his legacy for generations to come -- it is entitled "Mountain Muir". (See video above)
We are on a continuing mission to keep the legacy of America's most influential conservationist alive through sculpture. Please come and join us!
YOU can help us honor and celebrate John Muir & Earth Day!
The Impact
Our generous donors and supporters have already helped us achieve our first goal by funding the installation of "Mountain Muir" at The University of the Pacific. However, we have a long way to go and we need your help!
We can't do it without you!
Our second goal :The installation of "Mountain Muir" at The John Muir National Historic Site providing an image of Muir as the vigorous man of action he was, we hope to inspire those who visit The John Muir National Historic Site to pursue their life's passion and to be people of action and change in their lives and in the world around them.
The John Muir National Historic Site Center in Martinez,CA is a national park safeguarding the place where John Muir lived and wrote most of his inspirational conservation books and articles. It is also host of an annual John Muir -- Earth Day Celebration.).
It is our vision and our dream to also install life-size statues of Muir at Pacific, Muir Woods, Yosemite, an Dunbar,Scotland (Muir's birthplace).
Because these places are visited by people from all over the world, Muir sculptures there could help inspire visitors to take the message of conservation and preservation to their home, inspiring nature protection around the world. For more about John Muir (click here)
With your help, we can continue our mission to install John Muir sculptures/statues around the world.
But we need YOUR help to jumpstart this vision and dream!
The more support that we receive from you, the more statues of Muir that we can create -- small and large.
We would love to see a John Muir sculpture in the home of everyone who champions conservation and preservation of the earth's precious natural resources.
