Our Story

My name is James Bland. Im a Los Angeles based filmmaker who has spent the past two years working on big studio films for Sony Pictures. In August of 2010, I decided to take a hiatus from Hollywood and traveled 8,000 miles to the Kingdom of Swaziland (a small country landlocked by South Africa and Mozambique) on a medical and humanitarian mission trip with the non-profit organization Project African Global, Inc. With an open heart, a desire to serve and my personal camera I embarked on a life-changing journey that inspired me to share the images I captured and the stories I experienced in the form of a documentary.

Before I get into more about the doc, heres some crucial background information you should know

Swaziland currently has the highest prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS in the entire world. Project Africa Global has been traveling to Swaziland for over 10 years on annual mission trips proving free health care (including medical, surgical and medications) to over 1,400 people during a two-week period. Project Africa Global currently provides over $375,000 dollars worth of medications, medical and surgical supplies and raises money for livestock and school supplies/clothing for over 135 orphans yearly.

Project Africa Global has worked tirelessly to change the face of health care in a country that was being ravaged by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. When Project Africa Global first started going to Swaziland, they literally found people dying on the streets because they didnt have access to medication that other people have in other parts of the world. Today, HIV/AIDS is no longer a death sentence for these people. They can now focus on living happier and healthier lives.

Yet and still there is much work to be done and that is why Im creating this documentary. My objective is simply to tell the story of Project Africa Global. An organization comprised of selfless volunteers who have committed their lives to saving a nation whose existence was once said to be seriously threatened. A nation that some forgot, but one organization took the time to say I care, Ill be faithful and I wont forget you.

The Impact

My hope for this documentary is to bring awareness to the need in Swaziland and shed light on the organization thats providing a solution for this need on very limited resources and funding. Ive seen first hand what Project Africa Global has been able to provide on a dime, so I can only imagine what more they could do if more people stepped up and said I see you and Ill help.

Currently Swaziland is in a crisis situation financially with many workers going without pay, gasoline prices quadrupled, lay offs pending and the government unsure of how they will meet their financial obligations.

The impact of this documentary could bring additional aid to this wounded country. It could be the spark that ignites a fire in the hearts of men and women who have the ability to give, serve and change lives.
