Our Story

West Virginia author, Pinckney Benedict, wrote an incredible story called MIRACLE BOY. Director Jake Mahaffy & producer Jason Brown want to turn this parable into a film.

We'll be shooting for ten days this August in Greenbrier County, WV and need your help.

The Impact

Your help in supporting this project will achieve a handful of really great goals:

 - You'll be supporting family filmmaking. Movies don't have to be about blood, guts, sex, violence, action figures or Disney rides. They can just be about families and people and children learning really important lessons about life.

 - You'll be supporting West Virginia filmmaking.

 - You'll be getting good family films by West Virginians seen by big audiences. As the West Virginia Filmmakers Guild can attest, there is a lot of good filmmaking getting made, but not a lot of it is getting seen. Growing up in West Virginia, Pinckney Benedict is now recognized for his incredible writing. Director Jake Mahaffy's last film, WELLNESS, won at SxSW and his previous film, WAR, played at SUNDANCE. Between the two of them, there are a lot of people who take their work seriously.

What We Need & What You Get

This pitch is simply to get the film made. We'll be back to ask for more money later to get it seen. But for now...

 - FOOD: We need to feed our cast who isn't getting paid and our crew.

 - EQUIPMENT & PROPS: While we're borrowing things like cameras and microphones and lights, we still need to rent actual practical pieces of equipment like - tractors, cherry-pickers, and generators.

 - LODGING: Greenbrier County is quite a ways from the rest of the state and even from Virginia. We'll be needing to put up some of our crew and cast during the two-week shoot.

 - CREW: While we're working with generous people who are volunteering their time, your donations will allows us to pay these great people something for their hard work.
