‘Minutes to MidNite’ is a Trinidadian grown production and my first short film. The story is a surreal concept, based in a hyper reality and the dramatic plot is one of betrayal amongst the folklore characters of our land. In other words, the film is a melting pot of concepts and styles, much like it’s country of origin. As my debut film, I wanted to capture our diversity and also explore different styles in order to establish my own distinctive vision. I believe I’ve achieved this and even though ‘Minutes to MidNite’ has many inconsistencies through out, the process was a great learning experience, where by I not only discovered our rich culture of superstition but I also saw where we stand in the advancement of digital film making. Upon deeper reflection I found myself asking the question; what is our artistic identity beyond the cliche of sandy beaches, rum & coke and the ‘no worry’ tropical attitude? This is not only the beginning of what I hope to be my career but also the beginning of an artistic adventure for myself. What I’m in search of is the current version and true identity of what being a Trinidadian in this big world means.
