Our Story
Mata Hari...Femme Fatale. Who is the woman, wife, mother, exotic dancer and spy behind the veils of fiction that make her so infamous? Acclaimed composer Matt Marks, stage director Paul Peers and award winning actor Tina Mitchell collaborate to create a hybrid opera about Mata Hari's life. With the release of her secret files by the French War Council, which
include her letters, telegrams, military documents, and interrogation
transcriptions, the world has the opportunity to hear Mata Hari's true
voice.

The Impact
Paul Peers, Tina Mitchell and Matt Marks have been invited to be an artists in residency at Three Legged Dog Art + Technology Center, New York. http://www.3ldnyc.org/ One of the goals of the development of Mata Hari and subsequent production is to ignite a down-town contemporary opera scene, where young audiences can experience new composers and performance of this unique art form.
What We Need & How it will be used
This is the first round of Mata Hari's development. The funds will support production costs in the form of research such as fees to gain access to public files on Mata Hari, instrument rental, audio visual equipment rental to document our process, and artist fees. The goal is to attract presenters to take the piece to the next level of production.
