Our Story

I am Nile Nash, a home birth midwife and a women's health nurse practitioner.  I've decided to get myself an office space and start a clinic!  When my housemate said he was moving out of our apartment, I thought, why not make that front room a women's clinic?  All of a sudden my Lady friends were signing up to have me do their pap smear and general care.  Nobody wanted to go to their current provider for basic services.  I realized that there were issues with having my clinic in my home so I have gotten myself a beautiful small office and a roster of patients.  From the office I will provide basic GYN care like pap smears, annual exams, and infection checks.  I will also meet with home birth clients in the early part of their pregnancy to do prenatal exams and general check ups.  The space is in the Mission of San Francisco, and being a Spanish speaker, I plan to reach into the Latina community around me to provide low cost services of the same type.  We are all fed up with the current health care system and I have decided to make a small difference in my community by providing holistic, comprehensive, and respectful care in a lovely and intimate setting.    

The Impact

The Mama Lion Midwifery Clinic is a community service and an all around positive cause.  With your help I will be able to skillfully provide family-centered care to folks at low cost.  I hope that Mama Lion is an example to others of what good care actually looks and feels like.  I also hope to connect with the Latina community in the Mission to show them that home birth is an option and a right.  This space will have a lending library to increase knowledge and empowerment, great art to inspire, lovely furniture to encourage relaxation, and great vibes! 

What We Need & What You Get

We need enough money to get the clinic off the ground and funds to do one home birth pro bono for a lucky low-income family.  Money that you donate will also ensure at lease six months rent on the office.  Additionally, the supplies for a health clinic are expensive!  Your money will go to providing a microscope for GYN lab exams (for infection checks), and other supplies like speculums (you'd be surprised how expensive those little suckers are), sterile gloves, a scale, and all kinds of disposable supplies.  Before we are wildly successful and providing great health care to hundreds of women and families, we need to get going and because I'm going to be providing care and services at a very low cost I need some help.  I am passionate about birth and about women's health and the health of my community and friends.  This project is happening and is already moving forward so if I don't meet my funding goal I will still continue to provide care but it will happen more slowly and for fewer people. 

Donate at least a hundred dollars and get your first annual exam FREE!  Come in for your pap smear and your head to toe physical.  If you're a home birth client and a donor I'll knock off 10% from my midwifery fee on your first birth with me!
