In 1964, a young Japanese woman named Tomi Fujiyama overcame many disadvantages and fulfilled her dream of becoming a country-western singer when she appeared on the Grand Ole Opry. Performing right after the legendary Johnny Cash, Tomi was the only performer to receive a standing ovation.
Nearly 50 years later, Tomi still dreams of one day returning to perform on the Grand Ole Opry. Director Josh Bishop and producer Juan Pablo Reinoso have spent more than five years chronicling Tomi’s past and following her through Japan and the United States, capturing this firecracker as she continues to wow audiences both young and old. But her struggle to get back on to the show that launched her career has been met by shut doors. Regardless, she continues to show off her great talents in a bittersweet story about overcoming all obstacles to follow one’s dreams.
Now in post-production, this fascinating, touching and amusing documentary is still seeking approximately $40,000.00 to be able to fully complete the film. Renowned film star Elijah Wood has come on board as the Narrator of the film and will be providing his services once the final cut is done.
