MUSKET

Life is for the taking.

Synopsis

A killer walks the streets of a small town after a routine traffic stop goes wrong. A 200 year old Musket is stolen during a home invasion and later found by the victims sister who is given a chance to stop the killer, at the risk of her own life and everything it stands for.

Musket's Journey

When Shane Monahan entered his screenplay for 'Musket' into the 2011 Page Awards, he never expected his low budget script would end up in the top 10% of Hollywood's biggest screenplay competition. Furthermore, 'Musket' went on to be workshopped by several industry professionals at some of the world's top studios! Even though 'Musket' didn't take the top spot at the awards, Shane knew he had created something very special..

Without a producer, and absolutely no money, Shane sought out two fellow Vancouver Film School grads - Stephen Sawchuk and Lauren Holmes. After reading one of the earlier drafts, they both knew they needed to be involved in the production process and help bring 'Musket' to life in any way they could. After being declined for several grant applications, they chose to be proactive about the situation - and shoot a teaser trailer!

With the support and devotion of actress Elysia Rotaru ('Hellcats', 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2'), model Desiree Elyda, and budding Director of Photography James Choi, the gang assembled and braved the elements to film the attached trailer! Armed with nothing more than passion for film, high hopes (and a musket), the cast and crew now seeks the support of the public - fans, friends, family, fellow filmmakers, and everyone in between!

The Crew (So Far...)

Shane Monahan graduated from Vancouver Film School's Writing program. A few years after graduation, he penned 'Musket' knowing that in order for his film to be seen, it had to be made. Based on the story and it's setting, the script as grown into a full production. Shane currently lives in Chilliwack, BC, where he continues to write and create.

Stephen Sawchuk graduated from Vancouver Film School's Film Production program, and has since worked in several facets of the industry. Since graduating, Stephen has produced an award-winning PSA for ICBC, a made-for-TV short film (airing on OutTV this spring) and several live event broadcasts. Stephen is currently working as a Production Coordinator at Worldwide Bag Media, while continuing to work independently (and creatively) during his time off.

Lauren Holmes, who graduated alongside Stephen at Vancouver Film School, has worked on various popular films and television shows, and recently acted as the Assistant Production Coordinator on the hugely successful CBC series, 'The Debaters'. Lauren is currently working in the field on a new series for the OWN Network, while balancing freelance projects on the side.

What We Need & What You Get

We've got a great script (that's been professionally workshopped), an amazing skeleton crew assembled, have had early negotiations with locations and rental houses, and lined up some amazing key cast members... You'd think we could make a movie now, but we're missing one key thing... the funds to make it happen!

Movies aren't cheap to make, but $7,500 is still a lot of money! So where is that money going? Outlined below are the departments we currently need a huge hand in raising funds for - and meeting or exceeding our goal will play a major hand in deciding what will be possible for our production! There are thousands of dollars worth of other expenses (not outlined) that we're working hard to cover - including labour, purchases, and rentals.. So every dollar contributed is much appreciated & much needed!

Locations - $850.00

Equipment Rentals - $2,000.00

Props - $800.00

Set Decoration - $1,050.00

Costumes - $700.00

Craft Services - $500.00

Post-production - $1,600.00

Other Ways You Can Help

Life's expensive, so, if you're unable to contribute (monetarily) to the fundraiser, you can still help us out by mentioning our Indiegogo campaign on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr or MySpace (And yes, MySpace still exists). If you can spare your $6 cup of Starbucks, consider donating that money to something great!
