What?
Moderngrumble is the coming of age tale of a young monster and possible messiah. A road movie through the deep South but not the one we know. This is an alternate version of the South that has developed according to William Blake's 'Song of Urizen,' a creation myth that holds strange ideas about life, love and worship. The film's visual style is heavily influenced, not by the titans of horror cinema but art cinema, Tarkovsky, Bresson, Ozu, and the like. And as such will result in a horror film quite unlike anything we have seen in mainstream or independent horror. For more information regarding the plot, themes and style of Moderngrumble please visit us here.
Who?
Lotushead Productions is a newly incorporated production company based in Arkansas that is dedicated to the support and development of regional filmmakers and their projects through a core focus on connecting them with similar artists in other parts of the country and the world. All while maintaining Arkansas based productions that promote the sorely under used Arkansas landscape and talent for feature film production. Our first production will be the feature length, Moderngrumble. This campaign is an effort to raise capital for the shooting of the film's teaser trailer, a highlight reel of the feature film to come which will be used in raising the actual film's budget via more traditional forms of fund raising.
In the early stages of pre-production, especially in regards to the teaser trailer, we are focused, above all else, on realizing the unique visual style of the film; a milky, pastel Technicolor pallete reminiscent of 'Rear Window,' 'Vertigo,' and the photography of Ellen Rogers. In other words the goal with this project is to put the money on the screen and show you and future investors how the finished film will look. To this end we are working with two very talented artists; Joriah Goad, our Director of Photography, whose work can be seen here, here, and here. And our Special Effects Artist, Marcus Koch, a veteran of over 32 films and whose work can be seen here, and here. I am confident their talent combined with the raw power and originality of the script will result in a unique and stunning vision that has not been seen before.
Why?
Everyone involved in the Moderngrumble production believes deeply in the potential for the film to cross horror and art cinema boundries and become a film that re-defines both genres for the 21st Century. In order to do that however we have to start small and that start is the Moderngrumble teaser trailer. With a polished trailer leading our charge for full financing of the Moderngrumble feature, the business plan, the talented crew involved and the script itself will all have a better chance to shine for other producers, and investors, opening doors that otherwise may remain closed. Without the trailer, Moderngrumble and Lotushead Productions will still move forward with traditional investing opportunities but our war cry will not be as loud, our smile not as bright.
Needs and Wants
We realize asking others to support our project during the Holiday Season, is asking a lot, especially with the current state of the economy. That is why a budget for the teaser trailer will be emailed to each contributor. This budget will list every production expense as well as what items will be cut should we not reach our full goal and what other expenses may be incurred should other line items not cost their estimated price.Every line item will be verified through receipts and or invoices published on our site for contributors to view as the purchases are made. Lotushead Productions believes this type of transparency is integral to our success as a business and as your creative partner. The funds raised on this site will be used to secure our main location, camera, sound and lighting equipment, as well as crew travel, food and lodging. In return for your support and donation, Lotushead Productions has come up with a very diverse and exciting list of rewards that can be found at the right side of this page: everything from inside information on the Moderngrumble production, to works of art that influenced the writing of Moderngrumble, to Arkansas-centric gifts that promote our love of the Natural State and our dedication to making it a defining role in our film.
Other Ways You Can Help
Asking strangers for contributions is not an easy thing to do even via such an impersonal medium as the internet that's why myself and DJ Koopman of Lotushead Productions will be available to discuss personally any and all aspects of this project via whatever medium you wish, email, video chat, conference call, snail mail or smoke signals. As a contributor, whether of $10 or $1,000 we believe you deserve full access to us during the campaign. In the meantime if you can't contribute money you can help us greatly by simply spreading the word by linking to us from any of the sites listed at the bottom of this page or even placing the Indie GoGo widget on your homepage, feed or website. Posting us to your Facebook page, and Tweeting about the project are all very much appreciated and encouraged but what we would love even more is if you would have an actual conversation with a friend or family member who might be interested in what we're trying to do.
In an effort to encourage the whole DIWO (Do It With Others) ethos of crowdfunding we will be offering perks such as Spa Days and even iPad's for those of you who help spread the word for us and link back to us in posts or feeds. For a complete list of these perks and the guidelines involved please visit the perks page.
Thank you for your time, support and contribution. We cannot make Moderngrumble a reality without your help.
