What is Luminesca?
Luminesca is an action/exploration PC game set in an underwater world. I am developing the game for the PC (with a little support from some friends) with hopes to bring it to more platforms if it's successful.
In Luminesca you control a little creature called Lum.
- Outsmart predators, guide small creatures and scare off rivals using your esca (that's the glowing bit on your head!)
- Explore an underwater world, full of life, which responds to your touch and physical presence.
- Discover the secrets that lie in the deep...
Luminesca is a 2D side-scrolling adventure which focuses on the events of a changing environment, utilising light and physics to challenge the part of you that loves to explore.
More details on the Luminesca Blog.
Story
Springing to life in the protozoan soup, Lum is thrust into a confusing world of dazzling lights and frightening monsters. His colony's habitat comes under threat when a vast, ancient machine grinds into motion and starts to consume all the surrounding water. Lum's adventure takes him from all corners of his environment to the heart of the machine, encountering a rich ecology of inhabitants and learning some valuable lessons about the world around him.
What do I get if I donate?
- Donating $5 or more gets you same-day access to regular 'work-in-progress' versions of the game.
- Donating $10 acts as a pre-order of the finished game when it's released.
- There are bigger rewards for higher donations (such as art prints and the soundtrack) which you can see in the perks box on the right-hand side of the page.
What does Luminesca need money for?
I want to make Luminesca as good as it can be, and this means working on it full-time. The funding would help with living costs during the project and allow me to commit my full time and attention to making the game live up to its maximum potential.
It would also help to pay for promotional efforts such as software licenses and web hosting which are a requirement if I want to bring Luminesca to a wider audience.
What if the community's donation exceeds my goal?
The amount I have asked for is the minimum I would need to make the game. If the community kindly donates more than this amount I can go to extra lengths to improve Luminesca and distribute it on more platforms.
- Extra funding could contribute towards a Unity Pro license would allow me to improve the visuals of the game and use more powerful tools to create it.
-
And finally, perhaps most importantly, extra funding would allow me to consider hiring other people to provide higher quality art and programming support.
I do not expect you to donate more than you need to, but it would certainly go a long way if you did!
