Our Story

Hello there! My name is Nicolas Juarez and I am the creator of the web series Lucky Lucky Me. Congrats on getting this far!

Lucky Lucky Me is about Daniel Owens, a normal guy trying his hand at stand-up comedy. After quitting his job and moving to Los Angeles he does his first stand-up set only to realize he's not funny. Really not funny. He bombs pretty hard. The series follows Daniel as he follows his dream of being a comic while coping with his inevitable failure. Along the way he becomes friends with a method actor, an actress who books every commercial on television, a tortured writer, and other various cliche LA types.

Episode 2 concerns Daniel's relationship with Erin Isaacs, a Cassavetes-esque (absurdly serious) screenwriter/drunk, on the night that Erin's feature film, Wives, screens at a festival. During the course of the screening Erin drinks just enough to be hammered for the Q&A following the film.

The Impact

I started writing Lucky Lucky Me as a way to explore a strange dynamic that is very unique to Los Angles. It seems to be the only place where people I might see walking down the street sometimes end up being the same people I see on a movie screen, or in a television show, or in a commercial. I thought it was pretty cool that I can see a comedian do stand-up, then go home and see that same comedian in an Allstate commercial. So, I started creating these characters and this world in order to try to wrap my head around the absurdity of being a creative type in this city.

I can't say that's the impact for everyone else involved with Lucky Lucky Me....maybe they just want to make a funny web series that people will like...which I do as well.....let me start over.

We have a really great comedy ready to be made. Our goal is to produce a high quality show with extremely talented actors, writers, directors, and producers. We're lucky to have such a great cast including Paul Leschofs, Katie Pelensky, Lawrence Thunell and Lauren Salandra, followed by guest appearances from some of the funniest actors/comedians in Los Angeles. This episode will be directed by the insanely talented Elise Holowicki, creator of How To Fake It In America.

What We Need & What You Get

We're hoping to raise $1000 for episode 2. All the money donated will go towards typical production costs: locations, food for the crew, equipment rentals, etc.

A portion of the budget will go to 8mm film, which Elise will use to make a short version of the film Wives that we will screen in it's entirety the day we shoot in the movie theater. Hopefully that will be an event in itself and you will be there!
