Adam is so preoccupied with his search for spiritual enlightenment that he misses out on what is most important and valuable in his life. We follow Adam as he leaves behind his girlfriend, Sophie, and goes on a journey to see a spiritual teacher. Through a chance meeting with Jasmine a carefree hippy, that seems to promise a more mystical, enlightening relationship he has brief awakened glimpses of what life and love are all about.
Love Means Not to Be is about relaxing our tight clinging to our identity, and our need to know and understand life. It is about not-knowing, not-understanding, and the freedom and simplicity that comes with letting go of who we take ourselves to be.
Everyone could do with taking themselves a little less seriously; being able to laugh at themselves; and to accept that they dont have the answers to everything. The film is infused with a radical but simple philosophy which underlies Zen, Advaita, Taoism, Christianity and many of the worlds major religions. But it is ultimately about letting go of all of these attachments to belief and concepts, and is about everyday life in all its beautiful ordinariness.
