Who and What It Is
Hi! I'm Elizabeth, the moxie behind Little House, Big Art. I've spent the last 5 glorious summers teaching kids (and teens) as the Art Shop Director of a wonderful summer camp in the Adirondacks. I love it. It's the very best job in the whole world. I get to spend time with the most amazing kids, helping them gain skills and create art that makes them proud. Everyone feels great when making something special and colorful of their very own. It's my favorite, and I want to bring that goodness back to my urban home here in Pittsburgh. I'm opening a space where people of all ages can take art classes, try out different mediums, and share open studio time, all in a zero-pressure environment.
Why It's Awesome
Having the right space, tools, and encouragement to express yourself creatively goes a long way. Arts education is especially important for kids. It has a huge impact on self-esteem and empowers them to see what they're capable of building and creating together. Little House, Big Art is all about making things, learning and improving art skills, sharing ideas, and meeting great people in a super comfortable atmosphere. It's like art school in your living room (only without the mess on your coffee table). Not every kid gets to go away to summer camp or has a great arts program at their school. And not every adult can make the commitment (of time OR money) to a full-on art class. Little House Big Art is here to fill the void with glitter, glaze, fuzzy fabric, bright colored beads, and custom T-shirts. Our classes, programs, artistic options, and studio access will be designed for optimum flexibility.
What We Need
We need some art stuff! I've been stocking up on supplies over the past few years, preparing for the launch of my little studio. Last year I bought some bigger, more committed items like a kiln and the tables. We've got clay, paint, brushes, fabric, and beads, along with lots of odds and ends to embellish things. But we still need some core art supplies to kick things off right. We also need a few big ticket items: sewing machines and a button maker, an initial supply of ceramics and glaze, and few bucks for utility items (like a shop vac, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and accounting.)
