DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT:
Liquid Summer first came to me in visual fragments, like all great ideas. A face here, a scene there, or perhaps a characters particular victory. Then characters form. But from the ruins a boy emerged: One, who loses it all and finds himself in the process. It wasnt immediately clear to me at first that he (Audie) was hard of hearing. But true to life (and cinema), I believe all our internal struggles physically manifest themselves in one form or another. Hearing loss just happens to be an obstacle that is personal. Ironically, I penned the entire script on the coldest night of winter from the opposite side of the country. Yet in a way, it makes perfect sense because the film has an overall sense of familiar longing. It’s psychedelic. It’s sublime. Its about acceptance, freedom of self, and the overwhelming sensations that one feels when experiencing something for the very first time.
