Freedom Horses by Maw Bear
This is one of my Red Horse paintings, they speak to me about inner power. I grew up in Texas, Houston, until 1985 when Both my parents were killed by drunk drivers when I was 11. My teachers told my parents they thought that I had autism the year before they were killed. I then moved to Mesquite to live with the most wonderful Aunt and Uncle in the World. I achieved well in high school out of hard work but also out of trying to turn goals into a covering up what was going on inside my heart. In the years to come after that, I gave birth to my eldest son and love of my life at the age of 18. I had to let him go live with his father at the age of 5 and moved hundreds of miles away as a single parent with my two youngest children. I have endured many numerous types of situations- you name it- it has happened to me. I also have one son with Aspberger's another stepson with Bipolar and numerous other issues, two more mid age step/ and children, and two new little ones along with a wonderful husband. It is my dream to be a law enforcement officer at least part time to give back. I am also a folk artist painting my feelings through art- a religious experience for me. I enjoy helping others and turning my life experiences into positive ones. I'm telling you this to show you my vulnerability and the reason why I want to create these stables (although I cannot out of being appropriate say everything here). The point is, that having come through the darkness and learning to speak about life experiences some of which are great and some not so great..... I cannot think of many circumstances I have not yet lived through- except an actual physical disability. For this reason, I think I myself and family are perfect for the demographic We wish to serve. We wish to serve everyone who has faced the above, and more, and believe that everyone has been touched in some way whether it is ourselves, our friends, or our family members by life changing experiences. Some people deal well with these, and some people just need a little help. Disabilities are not just physicial they are mental. Life, is hard but together, we can make a CHANGE and a Difference.
Animals and nature are wonderful, less intrusive means at healing.
Liberty Bell Stables will minister to other's need by using horses, animals, gardening and art to heal.
I believe with God all things are possible.

Please Help us PAVE THE WAY... our own Yellow Brick Road...

The Impact
Lots of people can start a stable for people like those who we will serve, but, here is the difference our stables will make. Number one, we do not want to Only offer Horse therapy. We want to offer art and gardening related therapies. These are Not just therapies but also life skills. Clients can use these skills as a basis for careers in their lives. Number two, I myself am an artist and by having an artistic eye I can lead this area well. Number three, our own family has been affected by the issues of the clientele we aim at serving. This makes us perfect candidates to serve this demographic. Number four there is also the opportunity for businesses to use the therapies in team building and improvement workshops.
Also, in my mind, because I have myself been through these issues in my own life and body and through both Joe's and my children, I believe WE can serve Better. Perhaps "better" is not the correct word here. I believe that we can serve to a higher standard and provide a good service. That's the key here. Our focus is not on making money but on changing our world one soul, one individual, one family at a time.
I paint to release the past of my own life and know that art truly is therapy. In the past our own family has not been able to 'afford' equine therapy and I would like to be able to make this type of therapy available to all even those who cannot afford it or whose insurance will not pay. I have seen a need for this type of therapy, being all the different therapies and classes we will offer, not only in our area but in many areas, that is both Affordable and Maintains a positive outcome.
The impact of our project is that here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina more and more children are being born with disabilities. Scientists are unsure as to the reason but there is an especially high rate of neural tube deficiencies in this area. The Stables would be located in Henderson County, or Hendersonville NC, which connects with three other major counties with thousands of children and adults with mental health and or physical issues. ~
Locally:
- Buncombe County's five-year suicide rate from 1994 through 1998 (6.49 per 100,000) for people under age 20 was almost twice the state's rate (3.25 per 100,000), according to information from the State Center for Health Statistics, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.*
- 30 percent of children in Buncombe County suffered from some form of mental illness. Only one in five of these children received mental health treatment, according to the 2004 Community Snapshot of the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County.*
- By 2002, three major providers of mental health services to youth had closed and three school-based health centers could not meet the increasing need for mental health services.*

.
We have already been promised one horse as a donation to get us started!
If this project does not go through numerous families in our area will be affected. There is a stable for children similar to this is Brevard NC which is about a 45 minutes drive away and one in Mars Hill. I'm unaware of others. We would like to attain a property that is in close proximity to a local Hospital which is integral in serving special needs children. We are actively seeking property for the stables.
Joe, my husband, also owns and runs a local appliance repair business. We have people who donate appliances to us and we in turn place them in needy families homes. We would like to expand this service in the future also if the property we find has plenty of space to place a small building for this need.
Not only that, but art is a huge part of our local community but there is a need for a local art center for children of all levels and backgrounds. We would like to fulfill this need also.

What We Need & What You Get
It is our Goal to put $15,000 down on property to start the stables... This is a HUGE goal though, especially in this economy we are seeing... not many people are donating. We Must put at least $3000 down to gain the property and will need the eccoutrements you read below to get going... We will be using our own funds of $7000 to go towards the down payment and are hoping to gain the rest here and with our donor bricks program. We were trying to raise the full amount here but have scaled that back to $3777.00. We chose this number after much prayer and thought. On this site, you are able to keep more of your funds if you meet your minimum goal, so going over is fine too. The way Indiegogo works is below.. Below that you will find our detailed plans...
How Disbursement Works on Indiegogo.com; when planning your Perks:
There is a 4% fee if we meet our funding goal, and a 9% fee if we do not. There may also be a 2-3% fee charged from the payment processor. See the FAQs page for more information.
If we collect payments via Paypal, we will receive your money immediately, less 9%. You will automatically be sent 5% of your total money raised at the end of your campaign if you meet your goal.
We are going to be using a sizeable amount our own funds/ tax return for the down payment also. We will
