Our Story

It started in 2011, walking with a forensic nurse and being told that women who come into the ER to be checked out after a sexual assault often leave barefoot. Their clothes, down to their shoes, can be taken in the evidence process, and while new sweat outfits are easy to get, shoes are not. After surviving her assault, waiting in the ER, talking to the police, going through the forensic exam and losing everything she wore in – she is asked to walk out barefoot! That was the one injustice too many! Her Shoes – and by association Let Them Have Faces-- was born!

Let Them Have Faces (LTHF) exists to promote awareness, education and advocacy in the areas of human trafficking, sexual assault, intimate partner violence (domestic violence), and child and elder abuse. We do this by working alongside other organizations that are providing services for one of these groups. Through increased community awareness and involvement, we seek to bring tangible change and, hopefully, an end to these acts of violence that only seem to be increasing in our world today.

The Impact

It sounds so simple, a pair of shoes, but it can have a tremendous impact on the life of the girl it touches. Using the shoes as a platform to spread the word about violence in our community, coupled with heightened awareness, continued education and advocacy to further spread the word, that pair of shoes can have a tremendous impact on each person it encounters.  A donation to LTHF allows us to serve the partner organizations we work with to help provide the resources and contacts needed for victims of violence to get the assistance they need.  Your funds will go towards products for victims including clothing, taxi vouchers, and food vouchers, while allowing LTHF to grow and establish its roots.

What We Need & What You Get

We are just getting started! The $5000 we are seeking to raise will help us get a base of resources for our partner organizations. We are also planning a launch event in April; the $5000 will go in part to cover start-up costs and help with promotion for the event. While we work to grow our base, we are seeking donors to help with seed money, pursuing alternative revenue sources (including our own product line), and obtaining sponsors for the event.

Other Ways You Can Help

Tell others about the campaign. The entire premise of LTHF is to start the dialogue of violence in your community. Host a product drive and we’ll come speak. Raise funds with your book group, Bible study, soccer club, etc. to help with products. It starts small – find out about an instance of violence in your area, get educated, and spread the word. It’s only by all of us working together that we can end violence in our community.
