Learning empowers people. When I tell people I make my own cosmetics, they look at me in awe. Not only can I teach them to do the same, but I can explain why certain ingredients work better than others in certain formulations and help them sift through the information on the Internet. In addition to the workshops I'd like to add videos that educate people about cosmetics and answer questions such as why are Himalayan salts pink? This project of taking my local workshops to a virtual platform on the Internet is part of my heart. Everyone should have the knowledge to make her cosmetics as well as understand the bonuses and drawbacks.

Our Story

I got into making my own products, because I couldn't buy a suitable lotion to work in Alberta's DRY climate. My sister pointed out that I had a chem degree so I should be able to make my own stuff. After learning how easy it actually was, I figured everyone should be able to make custom products!

Like a good scientist after much trial and error I think I've finally found the right mix of tools and talent. To see some of the earlier attempts and feedback please see my website. In the last year I've given dozens of workshops for private and public organizations to build my repertoire of recipes and my confidence. I even had the local press come to me to feature my Valentine's Day workshop on the news and in the papers.

While I am pretty efficient working with small budgets, after a serious heart break seeing my project filmed poorly, I decided I needed to involve my community to produce a product I love. In November, through my caving group I found Marc. His work is amazing! And to afford him I've come to you to work with us to help my virtual workshop become a reality. Teaching people and making a mess are two of my greatest passions. Allow me to share these perfected skills with you and others around the world.

What We Need & What You Get

We need your contributions to get the appropriate equipment to make this venture look awesome! While I'm perfectly happy to donate my time and materials I would like to properly compensate my team. With enough money we can efficiently film many different episodes along with supplemental science lessons for our audience. Our website will be able to have more personalized features and we'll be able to offer fun L&P merchandise such as aprons and notebooks. If we don't reach our funding goals the project will still go ahead just on a much smaller scale and I'll have to hope film crew will work for lotion.

Your perks for being part of this journey include a free workshop, your name on my sponsor page and some of my favorite handmade products from my days as a manufacturer. I strongly believe in expressing heart felt gratitude so it's perfectly reasonable to expect a handwritten thank you note from me if we reach our goal.

Other Ways You Can Help

Money can be tight especially at this time of year, but you can still help us out by sharing this campaign with your friends and family in person or via social media (Newsletters, Facebook, twitter, blogs, etc.). If you've tried Lotions and Potions products or attended local workshops in Calgary or Edmonton in the past please let others know what you thought about them by posting in the comments section. If your organization is in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer or Lethbridge I'd would be happy to do a live workshop to help bring awareness to this project.
