Our Story

Two tech geeks go on a quest for the ultimate piece of technology in a Lord of the Rings for the Google Generation.

Max and Percy, the unlikely heroes in our story, are tech geeks through and through. As best friends since school they spend all of their spare time, and much of their work time, involved in a modern day treasure hunting game called Geocaching, in which participants use GPS to hide and seek containers that are hidden across the globe.

Percy (mid 20s/early 30s, overweight) is an awkward IT man, he works in a computer store, and thinks he knows everything, with character traits based on a Windows PC.

Max (mid 20s, stick thin, better looking) is a hipster-geek-apple-fanboy who worships everything Apple do and has many of the characteristics of the brand he models his life by. He claims to be a blogger but really he is on the dole.

Their best friend, Linux, died in a mysterious geocaching incident and while out retracing the geocache mission that killed him, they are visited by a ‘technological God’ (whose character is modelled on Steve Jobs) who tells them about a piece of awesome technology that was created in the early 1980s out of the experiments of the Homebrew Computer Club.

This piece of technology is so powerful, and dangerous, that he had to hide it from the human race back in 1983 (when he departed Apple). The world just wasn’t ready to deal with its consequences and until now the secret had been hidden and was known only to a few.

The problem is, that since that time, a few other ‘evil’ companies (Google and Facebook), with their hearts set on technological domination and power have rediscovered the secret and want to find it so that they can use it to take over the world.

As the chosen ones, Max and Percy must stop them by going on a modern day treasure hunt- that spans two continents- to find a series of hidden objects that will unlock the code to the greatest piece of technology the world has ever known.

The Impact

We're creating this film because it's a really fresh and original story thats got an audience that's never been targeted before. There are over 1.5 million active geocaches with over 5 million members at the geocaching.com community that recorded over 4.5 million logins in the last 30 days. With that kind of fan base it's a wonder a film hasn't been made before about geocaching so we aim to take advantage of this potential audience and we need your help!

If it doesn't happen? Well in short, we won't be able to continue with the project. Its rare these days for an original idea like this to be undertaken and because we're an indie film crew it's paramount that we get the support from people like you who share our passion for unique ideas.

What We Need & What You Get

* We need this money to cover getting our 2 actors out there, the equipment hire, travel costs, accomodation for the actors and their other general costs (food/drink) anything left over will go towards promotion and marketing once the film has been made. Anything you donate will go towards these costs so even if we don't reach the intended target the rest will be funded by ourselves, that's how passionate we are about this project!!

* None of the money you donate will go to back to us, it all gets ploughed into the film, so much so that we're planning on releasing it for free online. We're passionate about this idea and passionate about geocaching so we feel that it will do wonders for this amazing community!!

* We are currently in talks with some big companies in regards to sponsorship of the film and anything they offer will go towards production, be it money or items to use. If you are interested in something along those lines then please feel free to contact us at Contact@latitudethemovie.com

* $11000 sounds like a lot of money but remember, this is only £7000, and that's not a lot in the film industry but it will certainly go a long way to helping us!!

* We have a list of perks on the right hand side as a little thank you for making the project happen

Other Ways You Can Help

Spread the word! Tell your friends, colleagues and family, see if any of them are interested in Geocaching (or just loaded!) and if so throw them our way! This is a great opportunity to get yourself a film credit, be it as bragging rights with your friends or simply knowing that you've made this dream come true!

We have our Website, Twitter and Facebook pages if you want any more info on our project or if you wish to contact us then please do so at Contact@Latitudethemovie.com.
