Our Story

In 1995 Last Stop for Miles, a one-act play, received its premiere at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal. One of the actors who had auditioned for the female lead said, "This would make a great film." Sixteen years later, the playwright-turned-screenwriter/director, Celia McBride, is working with Vancouver producers Kate Green and Siobhan McCarthy of Brown Eyed Girls Productions to make that dream a reality.

Last Stop for Miles, the full-length film version, will be shot almost entirely in the Yukon Territory, a vast land of mystery and beauty, where the majority of the story takes place. We are seeking to fund the making of the film, a low-low budget indie feature, through government funding, tax credits, sponsorship, private donations and IndieGoGo contributions. If all goes according to plan we will begin principal photography in September of this year.

The Impact

Last Stop for Miles is about a woman in her thirties named January who has witnessed the brutal murder of her friend, Cherokee (Kee) and blames herself for what happened.

January deals with her shame by drinking and screwing her way across nameless highways, choosing random destinations by throwing a pocket map in the air and pressing her finger to the first place it lands.

The film opens when January picks Whitehorse, Yukon, where Kees ex-boyfriend, Thomson, lives. A coincidence brings January and Thomson together and they become intimate. Their doomed love affair, along with numerous serendipitous encounters with a variety of colourful characters, forces January to reconcile her past mistakes, stop running and take steps toward changing her life.

This is a realistic film about a woman who is wounded and scared and as a result is choosing a self-destructive path to cope with life. She is living in the darkness. But this is also a film about hope. January finds a way to overcome her shame and walk into the light. Last Stop for Miles will inspire you. It is a story that will lift up your heart.
