Lakes of Canada are excited to head into the Foxhole studio in Montreal, QC, to record their debut full-length album!

With Brad Barr (of the Barr Brothers) and Christopher Fox (of Folly & The Hunter) as co-producers, Lakes of Canada welcome a men's synagogue choir, a string quartet and a slew of fantastic guest musicians (and even a surprise new member!) to create something beautiful.

Lakes of Canada have been playing together for a year, and over the summer has been touring and playing internationally and working on a ton of new material that they want to record just for you!

The Story

In October of 2010, Kathleen Smith, the mother of our lead singer/songwriter, was murdered in her home.  While there are varying thematic elements to the music that will be contained on this album, the underlying story is routed in overcoming this loss and remembering one of the most amazing women that we've known.  This album will be dedicated to her memory.

Harmony Brings People Together

When we started Lakes of Canada last year we knew we wanted a band where singing was at the forefront.  A year, lots of new instruments, and a few new bandmates later, vocal harmony is still the focus of the group.  The 60s and 70s saw a surge of Harmonic music with groups like Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young, Simon & Garfunkel, and the Beach Boys.  This music has begun to come back with a fantastically whimsical twist.  With this album, we are striving to create music that would fit just as well in a giant concert hall as it would around a modest campfire.

What We Need & What You Get

We are shooting to raise 10,000 dollars to record and master our debut album.  The money will go towards paying for studio time, paying our production staff, equipment rental, mastering time, hiring session musicians, and minor miscellaneous recording costs.  Even if we are not able to raise the full amount we will continue as planned.  We will likely have to spend more time and do more of the production ourselves, so ideally we want to raise all of the money, but we are making this album no matter what!
