Our Story

LAST SUMMER is a new feature film by Mark Thiedeman (www.grayareafilm.com) about something everyone can relate to: first love.  It chronicles one summer in the lives of two high school sweethearts who know that in three months, when one of them leaves for school, their lives will change forever.  This is an all-American love story about a time in our lives that feels the best and hurts the most.  

The Impact

Support GAY AND LESBIAN FILMS. 

It's very important that young people see positive representations of gay romance.  This is a love story about two boys who live in a rural environment (church, baseball, vanilla milkshakes, the fourth of July), and their relationship is in no way perceived as a threat to the family values and small town lifestyle that shaped them.  This film is an opportunity to set an example.  It's a movie about two boys who are as American as apple pie--and they're in love.

Support SOUTHERN FILMMAKERS.  

We're also very excited about shooting the film DOWN SOUTH in Arkansas.  American films suffer from a lack of honest, accurate depictions of the rhythms of southern life, and it's thrilling to be a part of newly emerging generation of SOUTHERN FILMMAKERS.

Also, the script alone has made five GUYS cry.  And they're straight.  So, clearly, this is an important film.

What We Need & What You Get

The $5000 we hope to raise will help us get all the odds and ends we need to tell the story well: costumes, set pieces, paint, props ranging from bicycles to green beans to a broken down car.  We've got the technology, we're working for free, and what we need at this point is all those little details that will help the story come to life.
