Our Story

Weve just completed a documentary about the environmental crisis and an alternative way of living. It's called Once Upon a Time in Knoxville, and it's about a man from Tennessee called Rollo. He's created a low-tech eco-farm - there are recycled houses, fainting goats, mobile outhouses and lots of other surprises - and all in a town where living like that goes against the grain.

Rollo's inspiring because rather than just talking about the environmental crisis, he's done something about it. Hes thought it through and used his imagination, and hes created a unique little world that is economical, self-sufficient, frugal and careful. He builds houses out of recycled material, he hosts a bio-diesel factory, he grows food and conserves water. He faces up to a problem hardly anyone else dares to address our standard of living outpaces our resources.

This idea terrifies politicians. But in Rollos opinion it wont be bad if we have to live within our means. Hes built a warm and sustaining life with very little in material terms. His farm is an oasis of green, a community of real sustainability. He has faced up to the issues of our time and has done something about it that is responsible, but also fun, wacky and creative.

The Impact

The purpose of this film is to make people realize the connections between lifestyle and effect on the environment, and get people to make decisions that reduce their impact on the world.

This film will make a big impression on people who watch it they will see some of the consequences of consumerism, and also some of the alternatives.

Most people wont go as far as Rollo literally building their house out of debris and giving up most of the things we all take for granted. But anyone and everyone can be inspired to be more moderate in their consumption.

If this film is not seen, people will miss out on an inspiring positive example. So many of the films made about the environmental crisis are negative. We think people should take action in their daily lives about the environment. We hope this film will inspire people.

What We Need & What You Get

The biggest expense we need to cover is manufacturing the DVDs. We will do this with recycled packaging, so itll be a bit more expensive than just using cheap plastic packaging.

We also need to create a website for the film, with clips online, photos, writing and a shop.

We need to produce promotional material and print it so we can create promotional packs for the film. We will send these out with DVDs to reviewers and potential advocates. We will also use these to arrange screenings for the film.

In total we need to raise $3000 to achieve these goals.
