Our Story

Prostibulo Poetico is a multi lingual poetry experience which has been internationally recognized and most recently listed by the Guardian as one of the 10 best art spots in Barcelona. Prostibulo Poetico is in partnership with The Poetry Brothel, Poetry Society of New York, LLC, whose mission is to expand both poets and non-poets personal, intellectual and fiscal interest in poetry through performances, workshops, publications, and other projects. Prostibulo Poetico developed in early 2009 as a performance art event aimed at fostering intimacy, urgency and exaltation within the Barcelona poetry community, and at expanding that community to include a more diverse population. Today it provides a structure and set of values that unite communities of poets all over the world, poets who are committed to experiencing and expressing poetry in an personal waya way that is more true to the nature of poetry itself.

Based on the concept of the prewar brothels in the United States and Europe, many of which functioned as safe havens for the fledgling, avant-garde artists of the times, Prostibulo Poetico, like the Poetry Brothel events present both male and female, emerging and established poets. The creation of character, as both disguise and freeing device, enables the Prostibulo Poetico to be a place of uninhibited creative expression, for poets and audience alike. Each poet, under an alias, offers the intimacy of his or her original poetry in one-on-one readings for a fee. Recognizing that poets undervalue themselves in the creative marketplace, Prostibulo Poeticol hopes to confirm both for writers and the public the literal monetary value of such vital work. Since its inception Prostibulo Poetico has thrown off three major branchesVenezuela, Los Angeles, and Chicagoand inspired several satellite poetry brothel events in Belfast, Ireland; Leister, England; London, England; Oaxaca, Mexico; Auckland, New Zealand; Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon; and Akron, Ohio. Given the high level of interest in the project, The Poetry Brothel is taking steps to expand its reach by establishing bases of operation throughout the world.

Presently, we are only $2000,1700Euro away from meeting our fundraising goal for launching.  Libro Rojo ed. 3, a collection of poems by the poets of the Prostibulo. Every dollar helps. To donate even as little as $5 would be to support an innumerable number of poets and artists in this area.

The Impact

People who cannot physically be here in Barcelona and want to support our writers will still be able to experience  their poetry through a physical form of a book, that being Libro Rojo. If we do not meet our goal we will keep moving forward and host as many events as we can to be able to fund our project. El Prostbulo Potico es una experiencia potica multilinge que ha sido reconocida internacionalmente, recientemente fue incluida por el peridico The Guardian como una de los 10 mejores eventos/lugares artsticos en Barcelona. El Prostbulo Potico est asociado a The Poetry Brothel, Sociedad de Poetas de Nueva York, LLC, cuya misin es expandir el inters personal, intelectual y fiscal en la poesa a travs de actuaciones, talleres, publicaciones y otros proyectos. El Prostbulo Potico se desarroll a principios del 2009 como un evento de performance art con la intencin de traer intimidad, urgencia y exaltacin entre la comunidad potica de Barcelona y para aumentar ese grupo con gente ms diversa. Hoy en da proporciona una estructura y una serie de valores que unen a comunidades de poetas de todo el mundo, poetas comprometidos con experimentar y expresar la poesa de una forma ms personal una forma ms fiel a la propia naturaleza de la poesa.

Basado en el concepto de los burdeles de antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial en Estados Unidos y Europa que fueron refugio de los artistas de vanguardia de esa poca, el Prostbulo Potico, como en los eventos del Poetry Brothel, introduce a poetas noveles y establecidos de ambos sexos. La creacin de un personaje como disfraz y elemento liberador permite al Prostbulo Potico ser un sitio de creacin desinhibido, tanto para los poetas como para el pblico. Cada poeta, bajo un alias, ofrece la intimidad de sus propios textos originales por un precio. Reconociendo que los poetas se suelen infravalorar en el mercado creativo el Prostbulo Potico espera confirmar tanto para los poetas como para el pblico el valor monetario real de tal trabajo vital. Desde su origen el Prostbulo Potico ha inspirado a tres nuevos grupos en Venezuela, Los ngeles y Chicago as como eventos en Belfast, Irlanda; Leicester, Inglaterra; Londres, Inglaterra; Oaxaca, Mxico; Auckland, Nueva Zelanda; Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon; y Akron, Ohio. Dado el gran inters en el proyecto, el Prostbulo Potico est tomando los pasos necesarios para incrementar su alcance estableciendo nuevas bases de operaciones en todo el mundo.

En la actualidad estamos a slo 2000$, 1700Euro de alcanzar nuestro objetivo de recaudacin de fondos para lanzar El Libro Rojo ed. 3, una coleccin de poemas de los miembros del Prostbulo Potico. Cada dlar ayuda. Donando tan poco como 5$ ayudaras a poetas y artistas en esta zona.
