Our Story
This hard-hitting film asks where does democracy end and crime begin? Do we have a right to peaceful protest or are we really controlled by the establishment? Are our voices heard? Are we a democracy or just a more sophisticated dictatorship? People are dying across the Middle East fighting for civil liberties and the right to a democratic way of life while in the UK, protesters are feeling their democratic rights slipping away.
Chester follows students, workers and their families in their fight against government funding cuts to third level education. Young protesters are violently kettled for more than 11 hours in minus six degree temperatures and some as young as 16 are arrested and jailed for simply protesting peacefully. We see their parents fight to stop the criminalisation of their children. We hear from the police who faced the frontline; trying to control the mass of protesters - both peaceful and violent. Interviews with legal and political experts explore the argument that a basic human right is being violated. The human cost and aftermath of the many arrests and treatment of protesters are starkly illustrated
This documentary has big ambitions it is a call to action to defend our right to protest and for the government to listen to its people. We are independent filmmakers with the aim of spreading this campaign wide and far.
What We Need & What You Get
All money raised will go towards making this film reality! We need 10,000 to help cover the costs of production and post-production. Without your support the voices of UK voters could well become silenced. This is about you, your families, the future of your children. Without your support, the right to peaceful protest in the UK as we know it will disappear. Do you want that to happen? Protect the right to protest and support 'Kettling of the Voices'.
