Our Story

Graceland and Graveyards is a project close to Karla's heart, inspired by the death of a dear friend's daughter, this album is a collection of songs written for people in the midst of the journey of grief.  

About a year ago Karla was privileged to be at the hospital when a dear family said goodbye to their daughter.  In the midst of that beautiful and heart-wrenching day Karla witnessed music play an important role in the early stages of grief.  The goal of this project is to create a FREE digital album that walks alongside those in the midst of grief; a collection of music, spaces, poetry and stories that can be played while you journal, take a drive, cry or nap.  

The songs have been inspired by a collection of personal stories, poetry and memoirs Karla obtained from audience members and those connected to her online community.  Karla will be working with Producer Latifah Phillips (Autumn Film, Page CXVI) and Producer/Engineer David WIlton (Josh Garrels, Autumn Film, Page CXVI, Aaron Strumpel, Enter the Worship Circle) and will be recording at St. Ida's Studio on Lafayette, CO.

The Impact

Karla is an award-winning songwriter and performer that honestly portrays real-life stories and emotion on each of her 5 recordings and during her live performances.  This project has the potential to reach out to the thousands of fans Karla has cultivated over the past 6 years of full time touring and recording, however the hope is that the album reaches out past the lines of genre and fan base into the hands of those who are grieving.  

Karla's goal is to create a resource that will equip and assist those who are grieving, and will do so by giving the album away for free as a digital download.  Karla is an artist that values the impact of art in the midst of life's tender and tragic moments, this album is a unique opportunity to partner with Karla as she provides a resource for healing.

What We Need & What You Get

This album will be completly listener funded and available for free digital download.  What that means is Karla will not recoup any of her $9800 budget with cd sales.  The goal is to raise at least $7500 by April 1, 2012 to cover the costs of recording, producing, mixing and mastering and marketing the album. 

As a partner, you can choose to support the project for as little as $10 or as much as $1000, all of which include Perks Packages (gifts and incentives) for you!  We are excited to offer incentives like access to Karla's previous and future Digital Recordings, T-shirts, Photography, Concert Tickets in select cities, Songwriting Workshops and more!
