Our Story
Bill Bowman stepped into television history when he stepped out of his coffin on July 17, 1970 to host the Universal horror classic, Dracula. He went on to become a legendary TV horror host in Richmond, Charlottesville and Northern Virginia with three different shows, with his original Friday night show beating out Johnny Carson. Fans demanded he be given a Saturday show which inspired songs, artwork, a comic strip, and more. More than 35 years after he left the Richmond market, fans still clamour for his public appearances and to this day, there is still a sandwich named after him at Popkins Tavern. Bill also served Virginia public TV for 22 years, and was ultimately presented with Senate Joint Resolution No, 535 honoring his service to the state and his FINE character, the Bowman Body. Still in broadcasting, Bill's deadpan humor and genial demeanor still make people happy today. You don't want miss a single exciting act of this motion picture!
The Impact
Our goal is to have this film complete in the spring of 2011, but it simply cannot happen if we do not have financial support. We have largely funded the work so far out of pocket, but that cannot go on at this point. This film is the culmination of 3 years of gathering information, lost footage, and incredible stories to give Mr. Bowman his proper place in American television history. He's an important horror host and an iconic Virginian that the rest of the country can only appreciate if they get to see his work.
What We Need & What You Get
The biggest part of this budget will go to three types of expense: (1) properly compensating our talented crew and Mr. Bowman himself, who is an active part of this documentary; (2) paying for production costs like travel (which is significant), tape, food, etc., and (3) the cost of producing DVDs including DVD design and physical replication. This is our fifth documentary as a company and we aim to provide you with a FINE motion picture.
Other Ways You Can Help
Please help spread the word on your facebook pages, twitter accounts and through good old fashioned emails (did I say email was old fashioned?). You can join our "I want a BOWMAN BODY Documentary" group at Facebook as well for regular updates.
