Why We're Going On A Mission Trip
For a couple of years now Stephanie and I have been looking for an opportunity to go on a mission trip through our church and over the past couple of months this opportunity for the Congo has gone from an idea to a reality. We have wanted to go on a mission trip because we feel like God has blessed us both with awesome skills, resources and other things that we feel could be used to help others in need around the world. It's easy to get all comfy here in the United States and not worry about other people, God has pushing us to do something radical so we thought that traveling to the Congo would do the trick.
More specifically, Ryan will be helping them with their technology needs and Stephanie will be teaching English and working in their orphanages. At least that's the plan right now.
Why We're Going To The Congo
If you take a couple of minutes to read about the people of the Congo it won't take you long to realize how they've been taken advantage of and have suffered for literally hundreds of years. This is why even though the country is rich of valuable resources it's still the second poorest country in the entire world. Yeah, it's pretty wild.
Since the early 1900's Christian missionaries started to take notice and began sending people over there to help. This has not only resulted in a major growth of Christianity in the Congo, but it has also helped the people of the Congo build a higher standard of living. Obviously they still have a long way to go before they have a sustainable, safe and healthy way of life, but through this help from mission-based organizations such as The Paul Carlson Partnership and churches like ours it can only get better.
In fact, the missionaries and local church leaders have done such an awesome job building up the area of the Congo where we'll be traveling, the Congolese government has given them full authority to manage most of the foundational services like hospitals, schools and orphanages. Our plan is to help them out any way that we can with what they've already accomplished so far.
Why We Need Your Help
First and foremost we need your prayers while we're over there in the Congo. As long as we have a group of people praying for our safety, success and motivation everything else will fall into place. So, please pray for us and pray often as we'll definitely need all that we can get.
Secondly, it's not cheap to fly all the way across the world, so any donations that you can give will help us with the expenses that our church has to pay to make this mission trip happen. Just to give you an idea of how much it costs, we just booked our 2 tickets to the Congo and together it cost right around $4,000 (which is what we're trying to raise online). There are other costs involved, too but the plane tickets are definitely the biggest chunk of change we need to help cover.
