THANK YOU!!!!
The deeply awesome users of www.gmap-pedometer.com did it! I'll post pictures of the Macbook Air to this campaign site as soon as I have it! Supersonic thank-you buttslaps all around!
The www.gmap-pedometer.com Story
I am the one-man coder/proprietor of www.gmap-pedometer.com. The site is a tool that allows cardio freaks (such as myself) to track the distance they have run or cycled on a google map interface. I get over a million visits a month from all over the world.
This functionality cries out to be a mobile app as well. I have a development environment set up, and coding is underway. However the greatest limitation is time. This site is still a side project, and what's it's on the side of is a busy family life (three kids ages 8 and under) and 9-5 (really 6) job.
What I Need & What You Get
The goal of this campaign is to fund a Macbook Air (and backup drive) to use for coding the site during my daily bus commute. The solid state drive will prevent tragic disk crashes, and mean superfast bootup -- and every second counts! One more hour a day! Five a week! 20 a month!
This has been set up as a "Fixed Funding" project. If the project fails to hit its funding goal, you're off the hook and your money will be refunded.
I plan to have a lite/premium pricing model for the app. A $.99 version bearing ads, and $4.99 version without. (I also have plans to include spoken turn-by-turn directions in a future version of the premium version.)
Anyone who contributes $5 or more will get a free copy of the premium version when it is completed. If you're a techie or you just want to follow progress, I'll be updating the site's twitter and facebook accounts with the progress of development.
NOTE that currently I estimate it will take until June 2012 to complete the app. I hope this project succeeds, and I can bring it to you sooner!
