Help SWOP-NYC Attend Exxxotica!
This year, the New York City chapter of the Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP-NYC) has been invited to attend the Exxxotica Expo, which brings together over 20,000 professionals and participants from the adult video industry and 250 media outlets. At this event, we will be the voice for sex worker rights. Were hoping to expand our reach to new members, new areas of the sex industry, and new outlets. Attending this event will be a great step in attaining that goal.
Why is this Important?
Outside of just expanding our reach and meeting new possible members, the adult film industry is an important area in the field of sex work. It operates within legally established bounds, setting it apart from many areas of sex work. This also means that adult film performers are one of the most organized areas of the sex industry. But there is still no voice in the adult film industry for improving labor rights, human rights, or improving the day to day lives of sex workers. SWOP-NYC is ready and primed to be that voice. By attending the Exxxotica Conference, SWOP-NYC will reach out to an industry which has the power to create real change and allow us to build bridges into an area which is ready for action.
About Us
The Sex Workers Outreach Project's New York City Chapter (SWOP-NYC) and Sex Workers Action New York (SWANK) are both volunteer-based, grassroots organizations and part of a national network dedicated to improving the lives of those with experience in the sex trade. SWOP and SWANK host community support meetings, facilitate political participation, host events, and provide educational workshops for professional development in those in the sex industry.
Our Goals include
- Community-building activities like support groups, dinners, and get-togethers
- Forming alliances with like-minded groups and individuals
- Authoring zines and resource guides
- Eventually establishing a by- and-for-sex-worker health clinic, education center, and safe space
- Reaching out to the community at large by promoting openness and awareness through the arts and presentations to conferences, organizations and more.
What We Need
We are hoping to raise $1,000 for our participation at the event. While the Expo organizers and Eros Guide are generously providing us a table cost-free, we are still required to pay a carpet fee to attend, a cost which is required from each table by the venue. In addition, we are hoping to print some brand-new SWOP t-shirts for this and future events. Our inventories are running low, and we are aiming to reach some new people to wear their SWOP pride on their chests.
We appreciate your incredible support in helping us expand and reach new professionals all over the eastern seaboard!
