Our Story

Against All Odds Counseling Center, Inc. (AAOCC) is a non-profit (501c3) corporation which provides Mental Health and Co-occurring treatment for individuals and families to enhance their lives at home and in society as a system. With the use of Best Practices, Neurological Sciences, and Systems of Care philosophy AAOCC assists clients in obtaining and maintaining positive life changes.

Against All Odds Counseling Center, Inc. takes pride in our goal to maintain unification in family systems. The goal to keep an infant and mother together during treatment in order to bond;  as an alternative to re-introducing parent and child following treatment will be met in our transitional home; Hearts of Hope House (HOHH), with the future goal to open a home for fathers in the same situation. The house living environment is where the residents will receive therapy for individual needs. Furthermore; each participant receives-every day [on the spot] - guidance and coaching with cooking and nutrition, time management, cleaning, and organization. On the personal front; HOHH staff will assist with improved hygiene, appropriate vocabulary, communication, and social presentation. Parenting classes and counseling is paramount to the success of remaining bonded with their child, and daily life skills groups; to include work, social, and budgeting classes. As the parents take care of the children at HOHH; a staff member teaches and encourages education in parenting and developmental stages of children. Every day, each activity, and each class address a component leading toward the enrichment of a healthy happy family.

At Against All Odds Counseling Center, Inc. (AAOCC) we believe in, subscribe to, and put into effect-Systems Theory as a dedicated and sustainable approach to services which values and responds to the importance of family, school, prevention, and community, which seeks to promote health, safety, and high functionality of every person. Licensed/Certified Therapist, caseworkers, and counselors in our Outpatient Services and housing at the Hearts of Hope House (HOHH) will offer the avenue to offer such care. AAOCC is committed to effective, current, and research based treatment philosophy. Using proven practices of the past, intertwined with the newest of Neurological Sciences and Systems of Care approach to treatment is what allows AAOCC to encourage every child, youth and family member to be the best they can at home and in societal roles. AAOCC recognizes and fosters each family’s distinctive strengths which are the cornerstone for immediate and long-term success. Life enhancement is addressed by individual and familial care to include; physical, emotional, intellectual, educational, cultural and social needs, therefore the ability to reach the family’s goal for life. Our Goal is to expand our services to make available these enhanced resources to the communities within the greater Northern Nevada Region.

The Impact

For our communities AAOCC and the Hearts of Hope Home saves the Nevada State future budget funds through caring for families and keeping mothers and infants united during treatment versus reunification after treatment. Rather than expenditures delineated to the foster care system for the infant and the costs of treatment for the parent; at the Hearts of Hope House we offer a solution under one roof. Unfortunately; following a mandated separation by an agency that recommends the mother’s treatment before reunification, mother and child have lost a great deal of bonding time. The Hearts of Hope Home will be paramount in creating successful and productive members of society for generations to come.

The community, county, state, and government will save when the Hearts of Hope Home opens and treats mothers and infants become independent from public assistance. The research found represents perinatal/medical (1 year) costs analysis only. Against All Odds Counseling Center, Inc. and the Hearts of Hope Home incorporates medical as only one portion of its program outcomes. Additionally; Parenting, Child Development, Nutrition, Social, Relational, Employment, Financial, Communications, Stress and Coping Skills, and Therapy for Co-Occurring Disorders [mental health and substance abuse] are included as parts of the total program for our participants; saving thousands of dollars for government agencies to reallocate to other programs.

The mean maternal costs:                                10869.00

The mean infancy costs:                                  16943.00

The mean overall costs:                                               27812.00  per mother and infant per year.

Maternal Healthcare intervention being ‘ONE PROBLEM’ serviced by AAOCC is a cost-beneficial intervention for substance use in pregnancy that improves maternal-infant outcomes and leads to lower overall costs by an amount significantly greater than the costs of the program.

The money saved, just by intervening and helping the mother access medical treatment, is per woman at 1-2 year spent in Hearts of Hope Home through Against All Odds Counseling Center, Inc.   Obviously; the actual costs would be tremendous in actual dollars as well as non-monetary benefits to society and the child’s life into adulthood.

Against All Odds Counseling Center, Inc. operates an outpatient counseling office for substance abuse for any and all seeking treatment. A wide variety of cultural clients come together in group therapy to process, learn, and change their way of living that has caused financial, vocational, emotional, physical, and familial pain. The outpatient facility is located in Fernley’s midtown; in close proximity for the ease of access for clients with transportation issues. An outpatient client can be court ordered, urged by employers or family members, or purely voluntarily. The women who complete The Hearts of Hope Home are then referred to the outpatient for continued support and care. All are welcome to AAOCC.

What We Need & What You Get

At this time, in order to continue, we need funding assistance with office rental, communications and technology, licenses, employees salary for six months and advertising costs, with the start up fund of 50,000, The Hearts of Hope Home and AAOCC will be able to set up the initial foundation for our future. Fundraising will need to be an ongoing effort in order to obtain a home, employee salaries, utilities, and all operation costs. You the donor can receive a sample budget upon request, a modest budget of 350,000 annually makes up our initial budget for both the Hearts of Hope Home and the Outpatient Treatment with AAOCC. We had a fundraiser in our community via a carnival, fifty percent of the proceeds went to the Hearts of Hope Home for a total of 1431.00. We were able to pay three months Office rental. One employee has worked 15 months; the founder of her dream, to open the Hearts of Hope Home; with the promise of income sometime soon.

What you get when you assist our founder with her passion and five year dream come true: A happy and fullfilled founder for starters.
