A Look Inside
Our Story
In the spring of 2008, Writer Anthony Greene, Director Ken Simpson, and Producer Alex Jordan, agreed to start production on a $50,000 feature film. The film “Headcase” follows the character of smart mouth Craig played by Anthony Greene.
Anthony Greene, on top of writing the film, starring in the film as a first time film actor, also bank rolled the picture with his savings and credit cards. He approached Alex Jordan known to Anthony at the time as an indie producer, to read the script in hopes Alex would run the production. Alex was interested if they both agreed to bring up-and-coming filmmaker Ken Simpson on to direct.
This production based in Toronto Canada was the first of its kind for the three filmmakers. With over a dozen speaking roles, 25+ locations, and nearly 130 visual FX shots, the film is an excellent example of what can be done with a little money and a lot of ingenuity.
The main principle photography was shot over the four months of spring and summer. During post-production there were more and more pick-up shots to make the film work just right.
The film has taken almost 4 years to complete to the stage it is at today and is finally ready to be showcased to the world!
The Film (Synopsis)
Darkly humorous and disturbing ‘Headcase’ lives up to its title. After an ill-advised outburst gets wise-cracking Craig fired from his office job, he ends up agreeing to deliver a package for a man he barely knows. The mysterious delivery quickly turns to horror as Craig finds himself pursued by murder, mayhem and the mob.
Decapitation, bullets and a rising body count make the strangest day of Craig’s life a real ‘Headcase.’ A chance meeting with a beautiful waitress who is as hounded by melancholy and the mundane as Craig is by violence and vengeance, only serves to complicate things.
A hip and stylish dark comedy, ‘Headcase’ never loses its sense of humour as only Craig’s wit and absurd luck keep him alive. In the end, it’s through the discovery of what might be love that teaches him what being alive really means.
Why should you support this film?
What better way to spend your money! In all honesty making the film for $50,000 was the first hurdle we overcame in our journey to bring Headcase to life. The fact is we are only half way there! The costs related to film festival submissions, movie posters, postcards, DVD screeners, postage, shipping, travel, hotel costs and general costs to get exposure and awareness out are huge.
We will do whatever it takes to bring Headcase to life but we are hoping it doesn't take us another 4 years to get it to the big screen or even just a distributor.
Alex Jordan our Producer has been through this before with the horror film Long Pigs. "The marketing and sales process was extremely lengthy and really took its toll on everyone. With not enough funds to really promote, it didn't matter how many best picture awards we won at festivals or how much acclaim we received online."
These are some of the benefits that financial support will contribute to:
- Supporting local cast and crew on their careers in a temperamental industry.
- Help with keeping independent film possible and thriving.
-
Help Canadian filmmakers make fun films with the audience in mind.
- Help a few emerging filmmakers bring their hard work to the public eye.
- Ensure that quality local films get the exposure they deserve.
