My Story

My name is Hayley Jane. I'm 20 years old, have attended exactly one semester of community college, and I've dyed my hair more times than I've painted my nails. I grew up in and around rural Pennsylvania, and attended Catholic school until the 3rd grade.  I currently live in Grosse Point Park with two awesome roommates and one very talkative cat, and work in Royal Oak as a sewing machine salesgirl.

I'm a burlesque dancer, a singer, a faerie, a clown, a ukulele player, a seamstress, a former fire performer, a writer, and a huge nerd. I've performed my various arts in several cities and states, including Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and Coney Island, NY. I've toured the country with the Squidling Bros. Circus Sideshow and worked with and for the brilliant talent collective that is Theatre Bizarre. You can also find me dressed up as a faerie, enertaining children at Renaissance Faires and fantasy festivals all over the country.

And I want to be the next Miss Michigan.

What the What?

I'm not your typical beauty pageant contestant. I have a significant gap between my front teeth and stand my tallest at 5'6" without heels on a good day. I was always considered weird, even in my highscool full of weird art kids, I was always the one who was the most bizarre. I was the most eccentric, the one with the weirdest vocabulary, the one with the most debilitating abandonment issues. I fainted. A lot. Not on stage- that's the only place I felt comfortable. Just...in general.

I was never comfortable in my own skin before I started doing burlesque. Something happened. I fell in love with being me. I want to do this competition to represent the weirdo nerd girls, the art kids, the legitimate bisexuals, the circus freaks, and I want to DIY the hell out of it.

GAME ON. I've been re-accepted. Let's make this happen!
