If everyone who visited this website donated *$18, the film would be fully funded!

Hava Nagila: What Is It? is a documentary romp through the history, mystery, and meaning of the great Jewish standard. Funny, deep and unexpected, the film will celebrate 100 years of Jewish history and culture. The films director is Roberta Grossman. Grossmans last film Blessed Is The Match: The Life and Death of Hannah Senesh was short listed for an Academy Award, won the audience award at 11 film festivals, aired on PBS and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy.

We began making Hava Nagila: What Is It? in 2009. In April 2010, we completed a ten-minute sample reel (click on the screen above). This sample reel touched a chord and over 400,000 people have seen it online. Whats more, over 300 people have donated to the film!

With foundations drastically reducing their funding of the arts, were counting on hundreds of donations large and small to finish the filmAnd its working! With online donor support weve been able to continue shooting with scholars and celebrities including:

Connie Francis (http://www.vimeo.com/14806883)

Glen Campbell (http://vimeo.com/13520588)

Harry Belafonte

Leonard Nimoy

We are almost through with production! We have just five more days of shooting to go! These days will cost $18,000, our goal for this fundraising campaign.

Please consider a tax-deductible donation to the film and be part of the longest credit roll in history!

*Why $18? The number 18 is the numeric representation for the Hebrew word chai which means life. Bring more chai into the world and, before you know it, the completed film will be on a screen near you!!
