Hands of the Nocturnal Clock is a gangster film set in the roaring twenties. It tells the story of Victor, a driver for a mob boss, who is thrown into the darkness of the criminal underworld of the 1920s when his brother’s gambling debts get both men into trouble. In order to get them out, Victor must choose to resort to the one thing he has abstained from – violence.

WHAT MAKES THIS PROJECT DIFFERENT
|
|
‘Hands of the Nocturnal Clock’ (HNC) is a period piece set in the roaring twenties. The film will focus on bringing the era out, paying homage to the classics, and recreating a 1920s feel that will play the role of a character complimenting the rest of the characters within, rather than being just a period setting. Unlike most films of a similar genre, HNC takes the focus off the mobster, the boss, the detective, and places it on the driver. The story spotlights one of the lesser characters in a gangster film – namely, our unarmed mob driver Victor. The business that Victor is in challenges and pushes his moral codes to their limit at which point Victor is forced to resort to violence in order to protect his own flesh and blood.

| The Barber Shop (Maine Seaboard Realty
Rockport, ME
The hanging lamps, the picture windows and the two
awnings all add up to a neighborhood barber shop in a
growing city.)

| The Mooring (Friendship, ME
The scene was written with this very location in mind. The old
docks are perfect, backed by an old white building. The
wide-open space of it is as perfect as any filming location, and as the technical aspects of the scene are a bit complicated, it seems like it will be easy to maneuver. And like the pier scene, this is where dirty deeds will be done. This location, however, is much more industrial, it’s a real setting, as opposed to the stripped away nature of the pier. )

| The Bridge (Rockport, ME
The Bridge sits approximately 50ft above the river below. Like the pier, the bridge is suspended above eerie darkness. It puts the character on an inescapable plane. There is noth ing beyond the railings. The bridge itself signifies the intent to move from one location to another. The events on the bridge exemplify the impeding of this process.

Thomaston, ME
Billy’s Tavern has a beautiful wooden interior. The location is already and Irish pub and little conver -sion would have to be made to make it a speakeasy. Although the technology in the pub has changed, the architecture and interior layout remain traditional of our expectations of the illegal saloons of the 20’s.)

| The Loading Bay (Lime Street
Rockland, ME
This little building could very well be a loading entrance to a hidden bar. It seems innocent enough, fairly plain in accordance with the 1920s. It also adheres to a number of the film’s color schemes, a combination of brick red and forest green.

Boston, MA
A typical 1920s look will be incorporated into the existing apartment. The location will be dressed with wallpaper, newspapers, and other period pieces that will incite a 20s look and feel.)
