Green Arts Festival is the creative collaboration between sustainable living and sustainable art. Here in the number one refining area in the nation, a small group of concerned citizens desire to live more peacefully and more sustainably. We seek to create events that educate others about healthy, sustainable and BEAUTIFUL choices that will change their lives.
The Plan is this: A day full of visual and performance artists expressing their art in ways that are environmentally conscious. Reused mediums, green themes, recycled art, you name it. If its art and its somehow environmentally friendly or eco-conscious, it belongs here at the Green Arts Fest.
Green Arts Fest is the culminating day/presentation of the Flor Y Canto sustainable green theater camp. The kids and their families and all of H-town will be invited to participate in and attend the Green Arts Fest! The festival begins as the children finish their camp presentations, then the doors will be open to the public.
Created in partnership with GreeniRecycling, Houston Green Scene and Planeta Verde Now, dozens of local GREEN artisans will flock to Talento Bilingue de Houston 333 Jensen blvd on July 9th from 1-7 to sell, collaborate, free trade and educate the local community about ALL of the many green options in Houston!
The day will end in a community theater performance of The Last Paving Stone a beautiful family friendly piece describing the dysfunction of a society removed from their own green space.
Everyone is celebrating the placement of the last paving stone covering the last unpaved patch of ground on the planetthat is, everyone except Ito, a girl with ears so big she can hear the ground talking. Everyone else thinks Itos sound from the ground is her attempt to justify her humiliatingly large ears. Even Jassmin, a lass with a nose so big she can smell a lie, doesnt believe in Itos sound. Threatened with the forever-silenced ground, Ito risks the ire of her Pa to share the ground sound (spoken in music) with normal-eared people.
Our presentation will take place at 5:00 pm and will consist entirely of recycled materials!! Thats right! every costume piece, every set dressing everything you see on stage is recycled well of course- except for the actors BUT then again actors are constantly recycling themselves to play new people in new plays all over the place- so isnt an actor, a character rather recycled too??!? Makes for a great discussion!
