Glorie Incogniti

A new Casey Scott album to be recorded in Brussels!

Who is Casey Scott?

Casey Scott is a songwriter, poet, performer and director currently based in Portland, Oregon. Since her flirtation with major label success with Creep City in the early 90s, she has led NYC rock band Diva Machina and Portland's 12-piece rock orchestra Red Venus Love Army. Casey has played bass, drums and guitar in a series of punk and experimental projects, including the Snuff Queens, Jennifer and the Qualifiers, the Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers, and many others. She's sung speakeasy harmonies in the Howland Sisters, and made her feature film debut in "The Hidden", opposite Michael Buscemi. In 2008, she directed the sleeper comedy "Jesus In Love," based on a farce by Guy de Maupassant. Casey's original songs have been recorded and performed worldwide by artists as diverse as Holly Cole, Paul Brandt, Johnny Skilsaw, Jeff Lang, and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.

What is Glorie Incogniti?

Glorie Incogniti is a cycle of original rock songs to be recorded in Brussels, Belgium in March 2012. The title refers to a collection of poems, Le Glorie degli Incogniti, put out by a secret society of artists and literati in Venice in 1647. Notorious painter Artemisia Gentileschi was living there at the time, and her wit, beauty and dauntless drive made her the center of attention. The collection contains an adoring ode to Artemisia in which the author compares her to several of the Greek Muses. This poem, along with the inspiration of the Muses, is the starting point for Glorie Incogniti.

Why Brussels?

Casey met Belgian bassist Olivier Stalon while working on 69 Annee Erotique, a Serge Gainsbourg tribute album by drummer Todd Bishop's Pop Art 4. (A popular French music blog dubbed Casey "Miss Sexy Voice 2009" for her contribution to this record.) Scott and Stalon hit it off immediately, and on a madcap tour of Portland music stores the notion of an international collaboration began to "brew." Back home in Brussels, Olivier got Catherine Grenier and her label Topsy Turvy excited about promoting and distributing the project in Europe. Plans have taken shape for pre-production on both sides of the Atlantic, culminating in a week at Belgium's legendary Jet Studio with engineer and TTR partner Rudy Coclet. The American pre-production is taking place at Eric Hedford's Flooded studio in Portland.
