Gibraltar

Jan 1st Ulysses comes into the public domain in Joyce's Dublin. We'll be there to celebrate.

Our Story

James Joyce's Ulysses comes into the public domain in Ireland on January 1st 2012. We see this as a cause for celebration and to that end we are bringing Gibraltar to Joyce's home town, Dublin, to mark that date.

Gibraltar will open on January the 1st and run for two weeks at the New Theatre, Temple Bar.

In the heart of Joyce's Dublin.

Gibraltar is all Joyce.

The plan is to remount the show with a local cast on and around Bloomsday 2012.

The Impact

Gibraltar has already made quite an impression stateside with productions in New York and Philadelphia.

Backstage said -

- Gibraltar makes the convincing case that Ulysses is one of the most tender love stories ever written... a simple, heartrending story that resonates with the profound mysteries of love and desire, regret and affirmation. Its also extremely bawdy...

Fitzgerald, co-star Cara Seymour, and consultant director (Steppenwolf  co-founder) Terry Kinney do a splendid job...standout acting, a searching exploration of the human heart, and magnificent English. -

Prof. Abby Bender (NYU) wrote:

- Patrick, The students loved the show - I quote: "amazing," "blew me away," "wonderful!"-

Dave (one of the lads) wrote:

- You have a great play on your hands and I think that many punters like me would like to be exposed to Ulysses without feeling stupid and I think you have done that. -

Irish Philadelphia wrote:

Fitzgeralds passion and energy shine through... we begin to see Leopold Bloom, his life and his world through the actors eyes. Cara Seymour is a revelation.

Broad Street Review wrote:

- Gibraltar is pleasurably accessible. Molly Blooms closing monologue becomes clearer, and even more moving, when its preceded by the story of Leopold and Mollys bittersweet relationship. Gibraltar should be required (viewing) for anyone exploring Joyces world.-

Our Dublin team will include:
