From Harlem to Har Nof, this lover of mischief journeys back to her religious roots to find her voice after a painful breakup with her boyfriend. Connecting to the Creator through song may seem like the purrfect comeback plan for Ms Shira (whose name literally means song in Hebrew). However as the Yiddish proverb says "Mentsch tracht, Gott lacht."- Man plans, God laughs; haluchic Jewish law prohibits women from singing in front of men lest they become distracted and attracted. Not one to back away from a challenge, this tznuis siren shows just how far she'll go to Get Over You... without breaking any Rabbinic rules of course. With a music video showcasing the beauty of Israel, Ms Shira sings the baal tshuva blues to her girls in a synagogue, night club and streets of Jerusalem raising both the bar and eyebrows.
Currently we are in pre-production for Get Over You- the first in a series of mainstream music videos intended to show positive images of religious Jews. We will be shooting in Tel Aviv, Jaffa and Jerusalem and are looking for extras as well as extra financial contributions to cover costs. Our aim is to produce a piece professional enough to be shown on MTV Israel, Europe and America as well as International, Jewish and Feminist film festivals. Plus of course the internet. Not many frum female singers are bold enough to reveal their plight towards Yiddishkite, but Ms Shira's story and songs could potentially impact public opinion of Israel and the kiruv movement for women the way Matisyahu has for men.
Her musical behind the scenes documentary Is Real? shows the Jewish journey that brought her and thousands of other Jews back to Jerusalem. The clip features BB Netanyahu, Rebbitzen Jungreis, Neshema Carlebach, DMC (of Run DMC), Ice T, Immortal Technique and KRS ONE. Never before has "reality TV" ever shown the truth of Torah mitzvot with quite so much diversity.
The following is the estimated budget for the Get Over You music video. If you can't contribute financially feel free to be an extra, donate a dress, bake a kosher cake or help promote the finished video via viral marketing!
