Our Story

Vectorform is a global design and technology firm specializing in emerging digital experiences for the worlds leading brands. One division of Vectorform is dedicated to advancing healthcare through clinical innovation with the fields top researchers and practitioners. The results are groundbreaking solutions, often incorporating Natural User Interface (NUI) interaction models of speech, touch, gesture and motion.A recent collaboration between Vectorform, Microsoft, Intel, and Massachusetts General Hospital--Virtual Colonoscopy Viewer--won top honors at RSNA 2010.

We have been working toward using Kinect for Xbox 360 and the Xbox 360 platform for use in rehabilitation scenarios, and have an ideal deployment for it--inspired by our work in health, and a program using Kinect to support youth literacy in South Africa, created by Larry Venter, Senior Director of Retail Solutions at Microsoft.

The Haitian Amputee Mother's Alliance is providing prosthetic limbs and support services for single mothers, and others, who lost limbs in the earthquake. The solution is based on a deployment of Kinect for Xbox 360 and Kinect assemblies, to be used to engage those receiving services in physical activity, providing therapeutic benefit for the amputee. This project consists of securing hardware, and traveling to Haiti to install the hardware, deploy the program, training staff and patients on the system--and, if appropriate funds are raised, building a custom application for the Alliance.

The Impact

On January 12, 2010, a devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck the nation of Haiti, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The Village of Vision For Haiti / Foundation Enfant Jesus (V-V-H-F), founded over 20 years ago by Gina and Lucien Duncan to promote the education and health of children and families living in rural villages of Haiti, has agreed to take in approximately 60 mothers who have become amputees as a result of the earthquake, along with their children.

The Haitian Amputee Mothers Alliance (HAMA) was founded to provide leading-edge integrated prosthetic treatment to these women, empowering them to lead productive, fulfilling and independent lives.
