Our Story or This started with thinking about urban fairy tales
Hi! Im Savanna Washington and Im the writer and director for the feature length movie Finding Home. When I was a kid growing up in Detroit, fairy tales always included a prince coming to the rescue of a damsel-in-distress. They always lived happily ever after in a beautiful fairy-land castle. No fairy tale ever looked like Detroit.
So when I became a director, I wanted to do some urban fairy tales. The first fairy tale I ever wrote was Little Brown Boots. Its a take on Little Red Riding Hood. (Because, youd get locked up walking around Detroit in a red riding hood but youd get 3 snaps up for some gorgeous brown boots!)
The next urban fairy tale I came up with is the one Im raising money for now, Finding Home.
Finding Home is a modern, urban, New York tale, based loosely on Cinderella. Only there is no ball (theres a singing competition), and there is no prince (there is a really cute, hunky guy love interest though).
Ella does get some help not from a fairy godmother, but from some of the outrageous and quirky neighbors that live in her New York apartment building. Together they help Ella save herself and her sick father from the clutches of Ellas evil stepmother.
Were working on editing the movie right now I have a rough assembly. Were trying to finish up the editing in time to submit the movie to the Sundance Film Festival. The deadline for Sundance is in September. I also need a good sound mix for the movie thats what this campaign is raising money for final editing and sound mixing. Any extra money will go to music scoring/recording/mastering. The fabulous Michael Whalen has generously agreed to do the music for the movie. Thanks Michael!
How Your Contribution Rocks!
This film is a true indie film it has been completely self-financed. Ive run out of money for the editing and the movie wont get completed in time to submit to Sundance without your help. Weve come so far and the finish line is in sight, your contribution will help get the movie over the finish line! The great thing about IndieGoGo is that if you contribute by Paypal we get the money right away to help continue the editing process. But feel free to contribute in any manner that works for you, all contributions help!
What We Need & What You Get
We need $6500 to pay to complete the Editing, and for Sound Mixing. Currently I have a rough assembly of the movie but need your help to complete the editing. Any money over the goal will go towards music composition, recording and mastering expenses.
